    Correction : BT Trackball

    Update!
My mistake, the setting in the mouse software doesnt switch mouse mode for lefties and righties, it does what I needed, swapped from sleep to home and back again...
Thanks to Matthias for his patient support of a newbie, everything is sorted....
So I have a moving mousepointer, leftclick to "hold" and rightclick to jump out of an app..
    Sorted!
    PhilN
    still a newbie...

So since the iPad looks like it handles bluetooth devices (keyboards, etc) and one didn't want to spend the $499 for it (and hopefully tether a jailbroken iPhone to it for 3g while in the car).....

Are we seeing mechanical or software enhancement in the iPad that might be a part of the next iPhone firmware update?

Wasnt there a top end model that had 3G built in? There was a slide mentioning all you can eat data for $30... Seems that it would work well, on a good in-car mount...
'Course us Europeans wont get it till the summer, and it'll be locked to providers.. :-((
Im sure the coders will jaibreak it soon too.. :-)
A quick BT update: The BTstack works great, no lag, does exactly what it says on the tin.
One slight however tho... its only a HID stack. Could see my headset but wouldnt pair...
So I can remote control my Phone for apps, Nav etc OR use it as a phone.. Not both...
    Looking for a workaround now....
Its great to be making babysteps forward tho...

I saw the keynote, and Jobs mentioned ALL iPads sold will be unlocked. He even mentioned support for the newest SIM card standard; said w/ existing SIM cards it would probably "just work"...

PhilN - Well, I have a 3GS iPhone so I already pay $30 for data. Adding another $30 for an iPad which I'm mostly going to be using at home or in a hotel isn't going to fly.

So I'm thinking buying the non-3g version and wirelessly tethering it to my iPhone to run 3g on it in the car for Nav, etc.

Cool thing is iPad will work with the wireless keyboard and god-knows what else.

Since there's no way of controlling the ipod/iphone with a touchscreen couldn't a mini bluetooth keyboard with a touchpad work to control screen movements? Like one of these http://linitx.com/search.php?keyword...&Submit=Search or this http://www.irxon.com/english/products/kb860_e.htm

    Slonoma98: Yes, that's what a few of us are playing with, but there are snags;
The alternative BT stack only accepts keyboards and mice, not headsets, so once its running you can use pointers and text input but not the phone comms...
My idea is to have the screen system from MP3car on the dash, the phone down in a holder and my trackball near the gearstick for control...
    I'm getting there... :-)

I've been able to use the Apple BT mouse and keyboard to control it. There was an issue with the Mighty Mouse for clicking but the Magic Mouse works.
