Keeping us in suspense eh? I want to see some pictures! So far everything looks good. Where is the PC going to be mounted?

It's mounted underneath the rear shelf.

    EDIT:

Woah, haha my bad for not being able to update the thread. I didn't have my car for basically the past 6 months so I wasn't able to work on it much in that time. But now that I have it back things are in motion again.

    - installed Win 7 Pro (going into hibernation seems so fast, probably because it turns off the screen first)
    - installed new front-view camera (Sony 1/3" CCD camera with auto-iris, pics below)
    - moved old front-view camera to be my RPM cam
    - got a transflective 629 from MP3Car and swapped it out for my old screen

    Plans:
    - OBD1 data logging with Honda's 3pin DLC port
    - mount PC in boot floor instead of under rear shelf
    - fix Bluetooth handsfree with phone
    - find a use for my old screen? Two screen setup? dunno..

Here are some pics of some of the stuff above:

Sony 1/3" CCD 480p camera with auto-iris, adjustable lens 4 - 9mm, AES and BLC

From outside. I have since given the car a good wash / claybar / etc so will probably take clearer pics later. Probably wouldn't notice the camera irl unless you were looking for it.

From inside, can't really tell it's there.

Front camera view on the screen. That bright spot I'm pretty certain is the flash from my digital camera.

The old camera, has been temporarily taped down there to show RPM but will mount it properly soon.

Video from RPM cam. Nothing exciting as I can't take it for a drive until I get new spark plugs, leads and clean/flow test my injectors.

I'll take some pictures of the centre console with the new transflective screen, possibly side by side with the old 629 too. The transflective has an added bonus, it's actually pitch black when it's off so it will blend in more with the console and make it harder to see from outside. Where as my old 629 is a reflective when off.

    EDIT 2:

Hey Zills, I like the way you did your screen. I originally bought a 7" and then decided to go up to the 8". Still not sure I made the right decision.

    Couple of things so far.

    1. The transflective screen is awesome, except it gets fingerprints on it easily and they are hard to wipe off. Not something I can just wipe off in traffic like with the normal screen.

I am using my old screen protector on it at the moment but it causes glare so the visibility of the screen is reduced in sunlight. Can't seem to find much info on how people are dealing with this; only thing I found was that some people used a '3M Vikuiti' screen protector which I can only find on eBay for $100 USD shipped to Australia ...

    2. We're getting 40 - 45 degC weather here in Perth lately, so it's been so hot in my car that the DSATX will refuse to start. It does have a fan blowing right on top of it, but that fan only runs when the computer is on, so it is kinda useless if the DSATX won't start the computer. I'm thinking to either reprogram the DSATX to allow for a higher range of temperatures, or wire the fan directly to the ACC switch. Or move everything into the spare wheel well and see if it is cool enough down there to start up as is.

Keyboard melted in the car today:

How the case (MATX) is mounted in the boot. I wanna move it all into a spare wheel well enclosure soon:

Aww that's a shame. Sorry to hear about your keyboard. We've also been getting crazy weather here in Brisbane. Today was an absolute scorcher!

Have you considered switching over to a smaller PC for easier mounting? Might save you a lot of trouble in the long run. You can still mount it in the boot, but it won't be as big and heavy, not to mention having to put it in the spare tyre well which could be a bit loathsome if the PC troubles you.

I'd much rather stay with this one to be honest. There's heaps of room to mount it in the wheel well as it's a micro ATX motherboard. Not as small as yours but small enough.

Just need the motivation to start building the enclosure. Probably another couple 40+ degree days will do it.

lol yeah motivation is definitely a factor. I'm sure them 40+ degree days aren't too far away so get your tools ready!

I've just left the case on the boot floor for now and it's been fine, even on hot days. It's found a good spot to sit in so it's not flying around everywhere. Eventually I'll build that enclosure :P

    Got my frontview cam mounted:

    Hey Zillacles,

Love that moving camera footage! I'm planning to install one at the front and on the back too.

    I'm planning to buy a Sony HQ2

What software are you using to capture?

    Cheers!
