    New Supplies

Well much like anything else I suppose ( Bondo, Gojo, Dynatron..etc), which are all brand names not the name of the product. I could not find Dynatron locally, probably because it's most exclusively online...not sure. I did purchase some bumper repair epoxy and contact cement to prepare for re-doing my back panel grill and exhaust fan mount. Fortunately its only a small area that I need to patch up so what I got should suffice, even if it isn't Dynatron.

    DVD Drive Preview

Well I came to a mini snag whit mounting the DVD drive. The power cable connection to the back of the DVD drive is longer than anticipated and prevents the drive from sitting further back in the storage bin, which in turn prevents the storage bin door from closing.

Here are two brief photos. I don't have time currently to add the rest but I will add them tomorrow. I have decided how to fix the problem though.

This shows two sets of hole with grommets attached. The middle hole was the original but then I realized that the USB connections on the drive are on the side not the middle. So I made the second hole further up and closer to the USB connections on the back of the drive. I don't mind the two holes because I plan on mounting a media card reader here also..or some other component.

This is a view of how the drive will be sitting. I painted the styrofoam black and glued a rectangle plastic I cut from other plastic in my project to the front of the stryofoam 'shelves'.

Here you can see how the drive cannot sit all the way back because of the USB power cable connection. I will fix this by making that whole 1" in diameter (compensate for grommet) as opposed to 5/8". The cable connections will be able to slide back further and basically be outside of the bin allowing the drive to slide to the back. This will enable the door to the storage bin to close. I'm not worried too much about cosmetics here because it will be closed and rarely used.

I will post a link to the slideshow with more pics tomorrow.

    Mounting DVD Drive

I took a quite a few photos during this task and I'm not even done with this part of my project because I ran into a minor dilemma. I will fix that problem tomorrow. Please visit my recent blog post for the photos because I took too many than I could post here without it being too much of a hassle.

This specific task is very amateur but gets the job done. On this particular process I'm not real concerned about cosmetics because the drive will be basically almost on the floor level and will rarely be used, in addition the storage bin door will be closed. So you won't even see it or know about it unless I open the door to use it.

    The Two Holes

Regarding the two holes I ended up drilling in the back of the storage bin...I'm not worried about this because I plan on mounting another component in here, possibly a media card reader or something else. This original center hole will be reserved for that.

Not to mention no one will ever see them since they are in the back and towards the firewall and blah blah..

    My Plans for Tomorrow

Tomorrow I plan to fix and complete the DVD drive mount. I will make a larger diameter hole for the USB cables and attach a larger grommet to fit, if needed.

I will also start to work on redoing my back panel with the 120mm fan.

    Remember this?

    and this

I need to clean this up.

    Mounting DVD Drive Part 2

Excerpt from my latest blog post:

Today I made the hole larger in diameter for the USB cable connections. The drive now sits all the way back providing enough room for the storage bin door to close.

I had an old CDROM collecting dust so I decided to gut it and use its metal base for the DVDROM shelf in my storage bin. I used a combination of tools to cut sand/file the metal plate. I attached the plate to the styrofoam using silicon adhesive. The DVD drive is now attached to the metal shelf using industrial velcro and the shelf is attached to the styrofoam blocks using silicon adhesive.
For more details and pictures please visit my blog.

Here are some pictures from this latest task which I am going to mark as completed.

Need to make the hole larger for the USB cables.

Inside view of larger hole (right-hand side)

Preparing to gut an old CDROM. The bottom plate of the CDROM will be removed and used as a shelf for DVD drive.

Sizing the DVD drive on the plate from old CDROM.

I found that the tin snips cut just fine with little hassle as opposed to the Dremel. While it did cut the metal, it just seemed like the Dremel was working too hard.

Sanded the sharp edges of the metal plate.

The DVD drive is now attached to the metal shelf with industrial velcro and the shelf is attached to the styrofoam blocks using silicon adhesive.

The storage bin door is able to close now with the DVD drive installed.

Cabling fits now. I still need to get a grommet to clean the hole up a bit but this does not prevent my project from moving on.

Today I am going to try and start on redoing the back panel with the 120mm fan. If I do it will probably be later afternoon or evening.
