    Worklog Cleanup

I just noticed and totally forgot that since I moved my blog to a subdirectory on my domain that some of the pics in my worklog here are no longer showing. I will be editing the posts in my worklog requiring the pics to be repointed to the new blog subdomain.

My project has been on chill mode for a bit. Hopefully come January I can get things started back up. Stay tuned..

    Back to the Drawing Board....

I decided to redesign my current work-in-progress. I am considering swapping out my intel D945GCLF2D for an even smaller form factor board. I am going to check the forums on reviews of the Nano ITX and Via Nano. I don't necessarily need mad CPU or memory because I am not using this for gaming, so even 1G CPU and 1-2G DDR2 will be sufficient.

My concern will be how well these Nanos perform as CarPC's in addition to integrations.

OK. I'm beginning to find out that maybe the nanos aren't so good if I want to expand but I will probably consider one for a secondary PC in the car. For now I will stick with my Intel. I am going to relocate where I am mounting the PC. I will just mount it under the passenger seat. It's less drama...maybe not as stealth but the pc will be easier to access for service or modifications. The challenge I will face is that the power supply will be external..outside of the case. The M4-ATX will not fit and I will need to modify the case for external cable connections to the motherboard.

I will also have to order a new floor console for my Altima...since its all hacked up.

That is what I had to do. Check out my work log, I ran a cable from the case to the M4-ATX which is housed in a case of it's own. Anyway click the link in my sig. to see it. I like what you have been doing glad you are back at it.

Cool. Nice work on yours. I will have to apply the same although you have advantages with an SUV. In my Altima, even though the console itself is a very good size..there is very little clearance due to the hump in the floor. Plus I want less dramatic access to my PC.

I like the work you did on your bezel.

    It's That Time Again!

I started my CarPC project back up. I decided to redesign where I'm going to mount the PC. I am going to mount it under the passenger seat along with the automotive PSU. Due to the size of the M4 ATX PSU I will not be able to mount it in the case with the motherboard. Instead I am mounting the PSU externally in it's own factory designed case. For now I mounted the motherboard in the mini atx case and mounted the PSU in it's case.

My next task will be cable management which involves wrapping and organizing the cabling (i.e. atx, LED, USB ). This will prevent all of the cables from "knotting" up all over the place and also protect them from damage and heat.

Here are my pics for mounting the motherboard and PSU. I am also going to alter the PC case by cutting a hole in the top for connecting the external cables to the motherboard headers.

    Cabling and Surveying Clearance

Last night I wrapped/tubed my cabling for the dvd drive and led that's on the front storage bin. Today I reinstalled the front storage bin and fed the cabling as an overview of how this is all going to fit. I also placed the PC and PSU under the passenger seat to survey the clearance and space. I need to arrange them in the most optimal spot and so far it seems I may have to do a bit more modifications to the top of the case than I thought....I'm still figuring this one out.

This is a zoom out of the front storage bin installed. The dvd drive is mounted inside the bin. The USB and LED cabling is fed on the side and underneath the console. They will eventually feed down the side in between the passenger seat and the floor console.

    Close up of the cabling:

Just checking out how much space I have with the PC and PSU. Also trying to figure out how I'm going to modify the top of the case to allow for external cabling to the motherboard headers.
