    Audio Upgrades

In alignment with my CarPC project I am also upgrading my car audio components. I have completed the upgrade on the speakers by replacing the factory speakers with Alpine components in the front, and Alpine 6x9's in the rear deck. I also had a set of Alpine 6 1/2 installed in the rear passenger doors (not previously wired for speakers). So I now have a total of 8 speakers on the interior (counting tweeters).

The next step is the upgrade on my amp to a 4 channel and have all 4 of my Alpine 10" subs (as opposed to only two of them) installed. In addition there is going to be a custom box made to fit the shape of my trunk for the subs.

    Nice...can't wait!

    Lighting Upgrades

Along with my CarPC project and audio upgrades I am also upgrading the lights in my car. I am replacing as many as I can to LED. My headlight covers are being replaced due to the oxidation on my current ones.

I installed LED highbeams on the new headlight assemblies already. I am just waiting on my XENON bulbs for the low beam. I really would like LED for low beam like the Audis have but I haven't have too much success finding that since only Audi and maybe one other make (I think Lincoln) have LED headlights. Even if I purchased those "Halo" lamps, it's not completely LED because you still use the Halogen bulbs with them.

Unless anyone has any suggested websites I can visit that make custom LED assemblies for headlights...?

After my headlights are installed I will be replacing my tail lamps with LED. I already replaced my license plate bulbs with LED and they looks excellent at night. Nice and white crisp lighting as opposed to the yellow dull lighting.

Why did you decide to move the pc to under the passenger seat from the console? I really liked the console idea.

There is just not as much clearance as I would like in the console and is less convenient if I wanted to add any components or mods. However...it's possible I may revisit the console because then I wouldn't need to modify the case cover and the PC wouldn't be on the floor. Decisions...decisions...

Plus in the third phase of my project I plan on installing a second PC and was considering the second pc for the back seat passengers and mount it in the console. I was going to consider an even smaller pc for that such as a pico nano. The second PC doesn't need to be anything crazy.

    Not Quite Drawing Board

Ok so....back to my original idea and mounting the PC in the console. I already did so much on it and at this point it's not as dramatic. I won't need to alter or modify the PC case and I don't need to worry about having long enough cables.

so...regarding my statement about there is not as much clearance as I'd like...I looked at this again and..it's plenty. Probably more than many usually have when installing in their dash.

Here are my pics with the PC attached to the wall of the console and also displaying where the PSU will be mounted in relation to the PC.

This the view from the back of the console. The PSU will be mounted on the opposite wall from the PC. The ground/ignition/positive connectors are facing towards the front.

A view from the front of the console looking towards the rear. You can see the reset switch, PSU and PC.

These are the pre-made holes from the factory that I will be using to attach the PSU case to the wall of the console. They would normally be for a fan.

Tomorrow I'm going to Home Depot or Lowes to find some nuts and bolts that will fit the holes in the PSU case.

    Update

I've bolted the M4 ATX case to the other wall of the console. I am going to purchase a new arm rest/storage cover for the console. I'm also going to perform some more mods to the back cover..I'm really unhappy with it as is.

I would say the major stuff is done. I can now purchase my monitor.

    Here are the pics:

This is an outside view of the bolts holding the PSU case on the inside. Those other holes are from the original bolts that held the storage bin in the console. I will eventually cover those up, but that's minor.

This is a top view of the PSU and PC.

This is a preview of how it looks with the armrest attached. I am actually going to get a new armrest.

This is the inside view of the PSU case mounted. The bolts look long but trust me there is plenty of clearance with the board mounted.

This view is kind of blurry but the point of it is to show the clearance with the armrest closed from the inside.

Preview of the PSU mounted in relation to the PC.

Front inside view of the PSU and PC.

    LED Upgrades

I forgot to mention that I found LED bulbs to replace my parking/signal bulb. So the only headlight bulb that will not be LED is my low beam, which will be Xenon. I also purchased a kit to replace my interior lights with LED such as my front map lights, door courtesy lights and rear dome lights.

Once those are all replaced I will get my brake lights replaced with LED.

Can't wait for my LED revolution!!!

Future Project Enhancement Idea- Side View Video Input

My project basically has about 5 phases which is listed below.

    1. Design
    2. Build
    3. Test
    4. Install
    5. Video Input Enhancement

My future plan after my CarPC build and installation is complete will be to add another monitor in the dash dedicated to a constant video feed from the side view mirrors. I'm still working out the details on the design but this will be cool once completed. I also want my rear view camera to be a constant feed as well rather than switching only when I reverse.

I don't want to use a video "switch" design because that would cause for manual intervention at some point. I want one display with two (split) views, the right side view and the left side view (similar to what is used in video surveillance).

I am really leaning towards making this design independent from my CarPC though, because if something happens to my PC or something I will lose the video. It would be nice to find a reasonably priced, smaller solution similar to "video wall processing".
