    LED Revolution!

Today I replaced the stock bulbs on the interior to LED's. I replaced the courtesy bulbs in the front doors, the front map bulbs and the rear dome bulb. They are clean white LED's. I also installed LED license plate bulbs last week.

I am waiting on my LED parking/signal bulbs for my front headlights then I will be install those. The front headlights will contain LED high beam, LED parking/signal and XENON low beam (60000k).

    Rear View Camera New Setup

I have double limo tint on my windows...that being said the rear window is mad dark. So I decided to have the backup camera/monitor I have reconfigured to always display rather than just come on when I put my car in reverse.

Remember this from early in my thread..?

This is my rear view camera at work with my car in reverse. I now have it set up to be on whenever (park, drive, reverse), not just when in reverse. So now when I'm driving it's a nice wide view of the rear...works great. The next step regarding other camera integrations will be for a split display of the the side views, which will be in the dash....need to work out the details on that..

    Hiatus?

My project was on a hiatus for a hot milliminute..I finally just moved into a new condo so now I can soon start things back up. First order of business....I really need to finish upgrading that last piece of my audio components: amp, custom sub box in trunk.

    Starbursts

I noticed one minor annoyance at night with my rear view camera. Since I rewired it to be constantly on rather than only in reverse, I get crazy starbursts from car headlights. I just re-adjusted the camera position and will have to see if that improves it any. I also made sure the camera was clean.

Any suggestions? Does anyone know of any rear view cameras that have decent night time quality? Other than that, I am really happy with the function of having the backup camera on even when driving and not just in reverse. This is great if you have a double limo blacked-out windows like mine.

    Wonderful Work

I just spent the last hour reading your progress. I just picked up an 03 Altima and will need to install my carputer in it. Now the layout is a bit different, but you have given me some useful ideas.

Yeah. It's been a while since I have been able to get back to this. Work and non-profit volunteering got me tide a bit. I should be getting back to this soon. I am actually going to purchase a new console and basically do the same thing but make it cleaner and rework the back panel. I have my front lower storage bin already installed. It has the slim dvd drive and two USB ports mounted.

I actually take delivery next week.

Do you think a 7" monitor could actually be mounted over the lower storage bin (where you were putting your slim drive)? I will be keeping the factory stereo at least for now and modding it to have an AUX input.

I had considered that at one time and I believe that its possible but you may have to do some minor mods to that storage bin.

My future plan after my CarPC build and installation is complete will be to add another monitor in the dash dedicated to a constant video feed from the side view mirrors. I'm still working out the details on the design but this will be cool once completed. I also want my rear view camera to be a constant feed as well rather than switching only when I reverse.

I don't want to use a video "switch" design because that would cause for manual intervention at some point. I want one display with two (split) views, the right side view and the left side view (similar to what is used in video surveillance).

I am really leaning towards making this design independent from my CarPC though, because if something happens to my PC or something I will lose the video. It would be nice to find a reasonably priced, smaller solution similar to "video wall processing".
OHHHHH, you doing the same as me. Basically I plan to get dark tints all the way around. Because I drive an SUV, Florida Law allows me to only have 5% light going into the window. I also have the large 19 inch flip down which obstructs my view. What I decided to do is have cameras on all 4 sides, front, back, left and right. All these cameras feed into a Quad Processor which allows all cameras to be seen on one screen. That then feeds back to the PC, which records it all. Then I have a 10.2 screen that automatically has a built in splitter. It splits the image into 3 equal areas, left, middle, right. Its on from the time I start the car and turn it off.

I agree, mine gets about 4 car lengths worth of lanes. Only thing is, the distance is a little tricky. Where as in standard mirrors, objects can be seen really close, objects in the camera can seem farther then they actually are. As I mentioned before, all of them can be shown from one display. You can either buy a new display that has the splitter feature built in, or you can buy a Digital Quad Processor, like this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/4-CH-Digital-CCT...item2a06012ef7. Then you simply buy a SSD relay from Curiosity and connect it to the DQP. You wire it in a way so that when you turn on the car, it goes into 3 way view. This was the method I used before I bought the screen that does that natively.

Is the camera CMOS or CCD? i noticed if you go with a CMOS you get this horrible starburst, which is then followed by a black spot where the light is shinning from. It is very annoying. I noticed that when I upgraded to CCD, that issue went away because the camera is smart enough to dim the shine down. So instead you see the car, and the headlights look like they have a slight glow, but no shine. I also mounted my camera higher up to make it even better.

Now only thing is, is that when a car is 1,2,3 car lengths away, its cool, the camera does its thing. If the car is 4, 5, 6 car lengths behind, then its out of range of the cameras ability and all I see is a light, but once it comes into a acceptable range the camera kills the shine.

I am very happy with going all cameras. Although mirror looks better at night, it can not get as much width. With my rear view I could only see behind me. With the camera I can now see in my rear blind spots easily.

My next project is to delete the side mirrors and only have cameras and small mirrors in case the cameras fail and I need to be able to see.

Thanks for the tip. It is definitely cmos and not CCD. I am going make that upgrade as you suggested. Not sure if I can mount mint as high as you have on you SUV but maybe I could modify a satellite antenna that I can mount on the roof and the camera would actually be inside of the antenna. I would just have to feed the cable through the roof.
