SOO BCasey, I really like the monitor situation you got there. I bought the same monitor but I will be using the stock radio bezel to start from but it really looks like with the navigation bezel you have a great starting point!
I really think that the 8 in. is the perfect size for our setup. It seems to fit very proportionally to the vents and air conditioner controls.
One question I had is about your boot time. Using Centrafuse slows down the boot time a bit, but typically from a cold boot. My resume from hibernation time is about 18 seconds. Just popped in an SSD and I see you have one as well. What sort of times are you seeing with riderrunner?
I havent tested boot up times. But I will strip down everything I can to speed it up. I'll post the times when I get a change. I'll probably have it use hybrid sleep so that it will boot super fast if you just run into the store and then come back from hibernate if you leave it for a while. I think you can get pretty creative with boot up times so im not super worried. theres all kinds of tweaks n tricks to speed it up.
I will say that using an SSD is quite alot faster than using a traditional HDD, my carputer boots pretty fast and definitely alot faster than my day to day computer
Ya the 8 inch fits great in the nav bezel, just a little extra room on the sides (which i need so) so itll fit nice n tight in there.
Hi, I was just wondering what the current progress of your project is? I PMed you RE: the CANUSB device before I saw this thread.
I just bought a 2008 Charger, and trying to get any info about the CANBUS on any of the Charger owner forums seems to end up with "nobody knows much about the CANBUS" or "don't mess with the CANBUS."
You've really got a lot going here, I'd love to ride your coattails as far as possible with my own car. These LX cars are much different than the other two carPCs I've made. :)
My project is probably cancelled, I sold the car and bought a Challenger and while everything I've done will also work in the challenger im loving the stock radio in the car and dont know if I'm going to swap it out.
A good resource (where I learned everything about the can bus) is www.canhack.org This sites all about hacking the canbus network of our cars. The only thing to note if your going to use a CAN USB is the network speed needs to be set to 125 KBPS instead of the 83.3 KBPS in my car, 08s-up cars use a faster can bus network so everything about my car will work in your car except that speed has to be higher.
There is a person on here who has a charger (rtgree01 he has posted above) and made the software for the steering wheel controls.
If you need any specific information just ask n if i know ill help ya out.
I'll definitely buy your harness; I'm terrible at custom wiring. :)
Hey I got a question for ya. Will this device work for both OBD II purposes and hacking into the car's audio controls?
This unit is highly suggested over at the centrafuse forums. I am just wondering if that is all that is needed to do both tasks.
haha wow, how dumb of me...forgot to include this link
hmm not sure, havent seen or heard of that. I'd be interested to know though
Ugh, lord. I didn't even think about joining the centrafuse forums again. I swear, you gotta be on 20 different forums just for your car these days. :v
