I have burned up my canusb due to some wiring problems I did.... I have since found a microcontroller prototyping board that was much less expensive and does everything I needed and more... http://mbed.org

I doubt that the elm device would also work the audio controls... It'd be neat to find out though... If I wasn't in the middle of moving, I'd love to get one and play with it...

It's nice to see some interest in carpc's in dodge/chrysler vehicles....

ekkkkkkkk that ELM Scanner isnt worth buying. Its very cheap because they always seem to have issues. Also the OBD2 scanners are only for engine diagnostics, has nothing to do with audio.

That looks pretty cool. I am confused though what I may need in addition to that micro controller...I can see the USB input onboard. Is there additional hardware needed to connect to the car?

Ya I feel like it's a rare thing seeing Chrysler and Dodge owners installing CarPCs...We gotta stick together! lol

@ZX1: I didn't think that that thing would actually do audio stuff...but if the cheapo ELM scanner allowed for low level CAN bus protocol control, it would be possible to control the CAN controlled amplifier, Sirius radio, and steering wheel controls... but I doubt that system can do that...

@FantaXP7: It required a CAN tranceiver and a couple of resistors and capacitors... I've already got it working with my Charger... I have other plans for my system though... I'm wanting to add a audio mixer to the microcontroller setup... I'd also like to do the OBD ii stuff with the second CAN bus and control my HD radio. It's gonna take forever to get all that though....



I'm happy with the Zotac ION-ITX board that I have... and I'd be happy to help other people with their setup's as well...

What you need for the steering wheel controls is the Joycon. That will adapt your controls to work with a Car PC. You may want to search around though, I think they make a plugin adapter so you can use the audio controls also, I just cant recall the name. Another user on here that also has a Chrysler 300 M has it.

will the joycon read the can bus though? ours steering wheel controls send the commands via the canbus.

ugggh what do i do, carPC or leave the Mygig in my challenger....

Ya I dunno, the MyGig has everything I wanted a CarPC for, HDD music (which will get a size upgrade), voice recognition, bluetooth, etc.

Its got Sat Radio which I couldnt care less about until i turned it on and im pretty impressed now lol (FM stations in Ottawa suck)

I haven't played around with the mygig, but I think that the carpc will be forever expandable and customizable. My vote is most definitely carpc...lol

@Rtgree01, that sounds a bit more complex than I am able to do lol. Is there some easier solution out there that you know of? I can maybe do it if you would be willing to provide some sort of parts list for me to buy in addition to the micro controller and whatever else...

@Zx1Cruizer, the joycon will technically work, however we still need functionality for the on board computer. And the main problem is that the next track and previous track buttons work for other functions for the onboard computer display on our dash...Although I suppose since the OBD II will display a lot of the same info it isn't entirely necessary to retain that functionality...But it is good to have in my opinion.

PS...if anyone is familiar with newsgroups...there is a copy of centrafuse on it available now that I have found...just in case if you were at all interested in trying it past 30 if you catch my drift.
