Ya i think we've actually all posted in that thread. I dunno personally I think rtgree01's method is the best. It adds itself on the can bus and acts exactly as if it were a stock radio. The car thinks there is a stock radio there and everything works. Personally I think this is the best way to go in terms of steering wheel controls and carPC integration for these vehicles

I think you are right. However you and rtgree01 use the stock amp still correct? I on the other hand have an aftermarket amp. I wonder if that makes a difference...

Could you still list what it was you bought?

I used a canusb and i had a parrot hands free wire harness that i spliced wires into, basically u need something to plug into the radio harness that u can cut up (cause no one wants to cut into the stock harness right?) splices a db9 plug onto the 2 canbus wires and plug the db9 of the canusb into that and u should be good.

I had bought a Pac audio device to use instead of the parrot hands free one because it listened for the "radio on" message and powered an accessory line which i was gonna use to fire up the computer. It also had a "steering wheel control" plug that u could plug another one of thier devices in to retain them, i was gonna splice my db9 plug into that.

If your MyGig is anything like mine, soon your HDD will decide to lag badly, and initializing all of the functions will take a while.

I just bought this Charger (used) and while it's 2 years old, yes, it only has 20k on it, so there's no reason the thing should be slowing down at all. The pc I put in my girlfriend's Scion has been spinning the same 500G hdd that was 2 years used before I even put it in there, and it's still going strong through 2 Michigan winters and summers.

I still have all my parts and its basically all built (was about a month away from going in my 300)

With 89% parts bought...It's gotta be tempting!

By the way, I had the same monitor...the day after installing it stopped working properly...

I googled my problem to find that others had the same problem. Basically the screen goes blank..not to discourage you or anything. Just be aware it is possible.

Thanks for the info on the CAN/OBD II parts...it still feels a bit complicated for me. I may hold off for awhile and get a BoomzBox HD Radio since I will have immediate success with it where as with the other project it will take me a great deal of time to figure out since I am so inexperienced...too bad you guys don't all live in MA.

If I go through with all the stuff I want to do with the microcontroller, I might have a board fabbed up. I might make a couple extra when I get to it if there is interest... Like I said earlier, I'm in the middle of a move, and won't be able to devote as much time on this as I'd like.

My wife has a Jeep with a MyGig in it... There are so many restrictions that I don't think that the Mygig is as useful as a carpc... Like you can't really use the GPS to enter any info with the screen while moving.... I know you don't want to have the eyes off the road, but come on.....

As for not using the stock amp, my system doesn't require it... My system merely tells the amp what volume, fade, balance, bass, mids, treble to use. If you still want to monitor the interior bus for the steering wheel controls, and control the sirius radio, and some other random things, then my system would be a good way to go. If you don't need most of that, then the PAC system would or other steering wheel control reader would work...

If you do decided to make extra, count me in. I will most definitely be interested and be willing to pay whatever you think is fair. Again, no pressure. I am putting this mod off for some time anyways.

Good luck with the move though...that has to be one of the most stressful things.
