all youd need is the canUSB, I was going to wire it into the Pac Audio C2R-CHYNA.
It was going to add the ACC line to turn the PC on and I was going to splice in a db9 plug into where the steering wheel controls plug is, then plug the canUSB into the new dp9 plug.
I'd be willing to sell those two items outside the sale of the whole system just cause most people wont want those anyway since they are only really good for our cars.
Yea that would be great if you could sell it to me. I know that I need the canUSB from previous research, but I am a bit confused with your second paragraph and what exactly that accomplishes.

well basically the can usb has usb plug on one end (for the computer) and a db9 plug (serial port plug) on the other end to plug into the car. since the car dosent have a db9 (serial) plug on it it anywhere you need to solder in a db9 plug to the can bus wires in the car some where.
I didnt want to cut and solder any wires in the car, I wanted to plug something into the radio harness and then I can cut that new plug up and not worry about cuting wires in the car.
basically the C2R-CHYNA plugs into your stock radio harness, it listens to the can bus messages and when it gets a "radio on" message (which turns the radio on) it will power an accessory line, like the one needed to turn on after market radios or in the case of a carputer the automotive power supply.
This solved that problem and while i was going to be cutting and soldering that anyway I figured I might as well cut into the 2 can bus wires on the C2R-CHYNA and put the DB9 plug I need for the CanUSB on it as well. It splits the 2 canbus wires and sends one set into there circuit board to listen for the radio on message and the other set has a plug on it which you can plug their steering wheel control interface into (wont work for a PC, altho i read in the challenger thread something about someone using it). This plug for their steering wheel interface was where I was going to splice in a db9 plug for my canUSB.

I see, well it definitely seems useful and easier. And your right, better to not touch stock wires. I am wondering though, if it is just setup to read off of the stock radio wires, does it then not have the ability to do other canbus things like reading engine codes?
If you only tap into the CAN bus at the radio, you are tapping into the CAN B bus. That is the interior bus. There is very little engine information sent on that bus that I have decoded. If you were to tap into the CAN bus at the OBDII port, then you are getting the CAN C bus, I think. Supposedly there is some gateway from the OBDII port that allows you to issue commands to both the CAN B and C buses, but I haven't tried any of that yet. I would like to find out what bus you are actually connecting to when connecting to the OBDII.... Is it the CAN C bus or a OBDII bus that can communicate with both B and C buses.
I'm sure we'll find out eventually....
my understanding is the OBDII port will on the CAN-C bus which also has the (I think its this) the FCM (forward control module) which is connected to both busses so it is able to pass info between them.

Oh I see, that makes sense...well I guess I assumed that with the canUSB you would automatically be tapping into both cans but o well. Priority no. 1 for me with this project is to have those steering wheel buttons work for my carpc.
