WinALDL.......... this is the software that you get bundled with the cable. Looks good. And it's free, got to luv that!
Ok, Malcom2073 contaced me on Yahoo, and he thinks he has most of the code done already, as he has an 87' Camaro with OBDI. WooHoo! This would be fantastic. I will post when I know more.
On another note, not much of an update, other than what is to be done, not what has been done http://www.fiero.nl/forum/smile.gif
Well, after working on this custom center console, I got to thinking, the dash is still going to look very stock in comparison.
I figure if I am covering the original instrument cluster with the fiberglass dash cover, and doing some fabrication, I may as well swap out the instrument cluster entirely http://www.fiero.nl/forum/smile.gif So I started looking around, and I just purchased a digital dash out of a Cavalier Z-24. The Z-24 dash is still a bit dated, compared to modern cars, but is an easy swap, and I think will look better than the stock cluster at least :) It is a pretty easy swap, as it uses all the same sensors as the Fiero, and is a wire-to-wire swap for the most part.
My plan is to remove the bezels and such from the digital dash, and put a smoked Plexiglas cover over the whole thing. I will have some additional "Dummy lights" along the top of the dash showing when the CarPC has power, fog lights are on, and a couple other indicators. I also have a back up sensor system that I will put behind the glass as well, thats what you see above the gauges in the photo below. It shows the distance to objects behind the car when backing up.
This is a quick Photoshop concept on how I am picturing it looking.
I am also putting a blue gel (The plastic sheets they put on stage lights to change colors of lighting colors on a stage) over the gauges, to make the dash more blue instead of the existing teal.
I still have a lot of fabrication work to do, but It is all starting to come together as to how it will all be done now.
My ECU does both 160 and 8192 baud, so I can help with the low speed generic plugin that JohnWPB wants. In all honesty, as he said to me that Mitch said to him, it's not all that complicated. I'm putting together some stuff for John to try out, not entirely sure if 160 baud is possible for VB6, but if not then I can easily put together a DLL that he can use for the actual serial access.
I really like that digital-looking dash. I always loved that look in the Cavaliers and older Camaros.
Sounds great! I have been trying and trying to figure out a way to read this OBD1 data into RR for months now :)
I used to have an 86' Cavalier Z24 about 6 years ago. It's gonna be a flash back having that same dash again.....
This is good news - I've been working on this as well for my Fiero and VB6 based front end so staying tuned. :)
even after all this time away from this forum, this is still the first thread I checked and it definitely did not disappoint.
the gauges painted blue was an amazing touch and I was looking forward to seeing those installed but it looks like the new dash cover and display are now in the works in it's place.
can't wait to see how this all turns out. :becky:
