    2002 WRX-Project MT22

Carputer Worklog for 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX-Project MT22

    Asus eeePC 900HA:

    Operating system: Windows XP Home
Internal memory: 160 GB hard disk drive (HDD)
    RAM: 1 GB DDR2-Will Upgrade to 2 GB DDR2
    Processor: 1.6 GHz Intel Atom
Memory expansion: Slot for MMC/SD(SDHC) cards
    LCD: 8.9 inches, 1024 x 600 pixels
    Networking: 54g Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), 10/100 Fast Ethernet
    Peripheral connectivity: Three USB 2.0
    External video: One VGA
External audio: One headphone and one microphone port
    Webcamera: Yes, 0.3 megapixels (VGA)
Battery life: up to 5 hours
    Weight: 2.5 pounds (40 ounces)
    Dimensions: 8.9 x 6.7 x 1.33 inches

I plan on keeping this laptop in my glovebox. I want to build an autoconnect tray that will basically clamp around the lappy when i get in the car and hold VGA, USB and Ethernet connections solid, but allow easy install and removal so it is not permanently installed in the car. I will need to create a custom power control system using WOL ethernet capabilities, an asus car charger and a few 12 vdc relays. Will give that system its own line item in the future.

    Liliput 7" LCD Touchscreen Monitor:

    Item name: 7" Lilliput EBY701 + LCD Frame 701 Bybyte LCDFR701
Frame Dimensions: 177mm Width, 107mm Height and 71mm Dept.
    Screen Description:
High Resolution Display up to 1024 x 768
350:1 contrast ratio and LED backlighting - Model 2008 6th Generation
    VGA input
Touch Screen Function with USB interface
    2 Video inputs
    Computer display/S-video/DVD/VCD/Security system/Navigation system/ Rear view camera
    Compatible (Cables included)
Native ratio: 16:9 wide TFT screen
    Color configuration: RGB stripe
    Video system: PAL/NTSC
    IR remote control
    Full function OSD control (Multi-language)
Video input signal: 1.0Vp-p, composite video
    Power input: DC 12V
Power consumption: 9W LED BACKLIT.6TH GENERATION
    Brightness: 500
    Responsive Time: 30Ms

Will mount in stock double din in WRX. USB touch screen control and VGA video input will come directly off of lappy. Powered via 12vdc from Battery.

    Trendnet USB to Serial Converter:

This will basically plug into my Wideband O2 sensor controller which should allow me realtime PC side O2 readings. Will more than likely plug directly into USB Hub.

    Tactrix Openport 2.0:

Will be used for Datalogging and Flashing my ECU via Romraider (www.romraider.org) and ECUFlash (www.openecu.org) Will plug directly into USB port on computer to avoid COM issues.

    Startup Controller System:

I will basically be running a single 12 vdc dpst relay to turn on power in acc and on key positions but leave it off in off and start key positions so that cranking voltage and current spikes dont get sent to the computer. the second pole of the relay will contact pins 2 and of 6 of the ethernet port while pins 1 and 3 are always connected this will resume the compy from standby using the wake on lan (WOL) function. I am also using ShutControl to control the automatic standby function.

    USB Hub:

I decided i am going to run a Macally 7 port externally powered USB hub. I feel external powere will be important as I plan on running a fusion brain and an external sound card in the future.

    Frontend:

I was originally gonna run a version of RideRunner for a front end that an AWDPirates member(surtr) had created, he had already embedded enginuity(romraider) to display engine data scrolling across the display but I belive i'm gonna nix that and go with sawmill resized with winamp running on top.

    Have you started the install?

Of course we want some pictures .

I like the idea of the EEE as a removable car PC, I'm really curious how your custom dock turns out. And the custom power controller is very intriguing. Keep us posted!
