Woohoo! It's in! I installed it over the holiday weekend. It went in pretty easy with not too many surprises. There are couple of things that didn't turn out quite as I had planned.

I wanted to be able to remove the LCD and store it in the cubby. However, I have a cable management problem and the cables, along with the mounting bracket, won't allow the lid to close completely. I can still remove the LCD pretty easy and close the lid.

The ash tray will not close for the same reason. There is not enough clearance for the usb cable and power wires to allow the ash tray to rotate. I may be able to work this out, but I wanted to keep from cutting anything in the car.

Here is a pic of the dash disassembled. I was really careful removing the trim around the clock. However, I still broke the top off one of the plastic clips. I was able to salvage it and everything fits snug.

Here is a pic with everything in:

Here is a pic with the upper glove box door open showing the pc case. The panel of the PC case pulls off with the cloth tab. I can remove the HDD and get to the PC internals without removing the dash.

The LCD looks way better than it shows up in the photos. I am still playing around with the software and getting OBD-II to work in Linux. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with it.

Can I get more information on how you mounted the screen? I have a 2005 G35 Sedan with the non nav cubby.

    Nice setup!

I want to do the exact thing as you in terms of installing my next carpc in the most inconspicious way.

How is your setup running? Any issues with playback of music or whining noises when you push on the gas? Any overheating issues with your pc portion in that compartment?

    Thanks

I installed my pc in the glovebox and it has not experienced any overheating over the past 6 months it has been in. It's in a different car (honda civic) but it should in theory not be much different, so you should be fine going that route. And issues with whining noises would either indicate faulty grounding someplace or that your alternator is not doing so well.
