My secondary battery tipped over because I didn't mount it properly. Luckily, nothing was damaged other than a fuse and the battery itself. I replaced it with a HC800 which gives 26Ah of capacity. In theory, drawing 3-4W it'll last me for 5-6days without running the vehicle. I've learned from my last mistake and spent an hour or so at the Home Depot to get some inspiration on how to mount the battery and everything else in an orderly way.
I got the idea from kshots' setup where he had two metal plates stacked. I have a bunch of stuff and limited lateral area to put it in. stacking seemed like the way to go. So I grabbed a couple boards 2.5' x 1' and a couple 2"x4" inch boards, some carpet adhesive, and some screws. I ordered some car carpet stuff and went to work:
Here's my Carpc in the photo to give you some perspective.
As you can see, I have plenty of room now. The bottom shelf will be reserved for my sheeva plug as previously shown in this thread. I don't think that battery is going anywhere now. haha!
Take my advice and make sure you don't put the fusion brain on the bottom shelf. You'll want to mess with it way too much. I learned the hard way haha
I realise it's unlikely to happen again, but just in case - what will you do if the battery decides to bulge like the last one did?
Awesome stuff though. I'm slightly envious; my sheeva just sits in the back seat skooting around, occasionally pulling the USB out if I corner too vigorously.
Yeah, i realized that after i set the battery in... if it bulges, I have to break the box to get it out... :(. I hope that won't happen though.

Can I ask a silly question? Why cant the second battery also go in the engine bay? With my Dodge I have so much room I can actually put another battery right next to the current one if I switch to a smaller battery. Currently I have a big gaint battery, if I go with a deepcell I should be able to go a little smaller. I dont know if Chevy left room in the engine bay though.
People with space in their engine bay crack me up.
Mine looks like this:
Lol, is the battery in the back on the mini? I dont see it in the picture. Is it the little black box in the driver side corner?
It's under the cover in the very top left hand side of the picture. [the cover is partially out of frame]
I'm fairly certain this thread has just devolved into "trip's compensating for something"
