i wonder if the cars rfid sensor is strong enough to detect my key in my pocket, then it would be so simple to setup keyless push-start. if not maybe i could somehow boost the cars sensor.
that way if key is not present then the car wont start when i press the button.
If its an rfid transmitter then yes....if its just the chip in key then not a chance. Maybe this could get you started:

i think the infared would be better than a water sensor because it can better control variable wiper speed depending on how much rain it see.
It certainly would be but i haven't heard of any off the shelf units. Building your own would probably take a degree in physics to get right but maybe you could use one out of another car (as long as the placement is right it should work)

good idea on the sun load sensor. and i could probably use infared distance sensors for the flaps right?
i have a feeling i'll be doing intensive programing. i better start playing with mdx soon.
Yea you could use infrared...cars with electronic controls have an output from a rotary encoder that they use. That may be an option if the axis for the flap extends out of the box but otherwise your probably stuck with ir distance sensors or switches. As far as detecting temps you might be better off using an obdII reader to read the engine coolant temp to know if the car is hot enough. You could also look at the A/C duty cycle to know if the air conditioning is cold but thats a vehicle specific query.

I hope my install is one of those two, lol.

SCION, it sounds like your car's HVAC setup could be similar to mine. Does your fan direction dial physically move the fan vents or is it just a 'control' dial and the car then moves servos/actuators to alter the directions in response?

greeno, my vent control knob is directly attached to wires that mechanically move the flaps, no servos.
the only things electrical are the fan control, and a/c, recirc, and rear defrost switches.

    what car do you have?

    I drive a hyundai tiburon/coupe:

Unfortunately the dials that control my vents and fan temp are potentiometers and I was able to integrate them into my front end by using a number of fixed potentiometers that were switched in and out of the circuit with relays, these then (as far as the car was concerned) represented my dials in their various positions.

Certainly sounds like you're going to have to go with servos/actuators along with some custom mounting frames to inegrate your vent controls.

Good Luck, I'll be keeping a keen eye on your progress.

I guess I need to find that other project.... One was yours now hearing the description and the other one was using actual servos to move cables. i remember them discussing sun load equations in the thread but can't seem to find it.

yea i can't seem to find the project threads of anybody who's done hvac, but i'm sure there's more than a couple, being that civicmods is making the eyeR mainly for hvac.

let me know if you find any, i'm still looking but most project threads are extremely long, hundreds of posts to look through, and i get distracted very easily :-)

    m350 Case

    Hey there...

Just had a quick scan through your post and also the one over at my thread.... Im just making sure that the M350 case will be suitable for your matx board with all those PCI slots... The m350 case cant take a PCI card unless you have the optional riser card (or any riser card) which will give you access to 1 PCI slot... and no external access to the ports on the back. If thats not a concern then its all good

thanks lucan, i actually changed the hardware i'm going to buy AGAIN, lol.
i've decided on a mini itx and the m350 case, not the micro atx i mentioned earlier.
i don't believe a micro atx will fit in the m350, as it's much bigger.
the intel board i'm thinking about now just has 1 pci slot.
thanks for the info on the m350, the website has poor documentation.
now i knew about the 2 hidden usb ports for wireless etc, but the back ports are covered as well?
if they are is there a wire channel to run my video audio usb's and power outta?
also the biggest thing i'd like to know, is there room inside the case for the m2-atx, or do i have to mount that outside?

now my question is, does anyone have experience with mdx and FB, and knows how much resources it pulls off the pc?
i've been playing with centrafuse 3.0 on my eeePC and it's probably the most intense front end, but works fine on my Eee, i probably shouldn't be concerned about riderunner taxing it, should i?
also, is riderunner the only FE that can integrate with Fusion brain?

ok, now i'm starting to think that the 7" lilliput wont be big and clean enough for what i want, mainly because there will be allot of trim showing around the screen, behind the radio bezel...
i compared the viewable screen size of the 889GL 8" screen to the opening in my scion radio bezel, and the width of the viewable area is still smaller than the opening, and the height is exactly the same as the opening for the radio.
so if i'm to think correctly i wont need to modify the visible part of the bezel to get it to fit.
i'll definately have to take the 889GL apart to mount it because the trim is over an inch larger than my bezel, and with the buttons at the bottom of the screen i'll have to relocate them.

basically what i'd like to know is when the 889GL is taken apart, how big is the panel? (not just viewable area but including the metal trim around it)
also are the buttons at the bottom on a separate pcb?
what's the size of the largest pcb in the screen?

hopefully i'll only need to trim away some non-visible plastic behind the bezel to get it to fit, but i want to make sure before i spend 240 on a screen i can't use there.
since the bezel protrudes from the dash i don't want to modify it too much and make it taller, it just looks too weird and non-oem.
also does is the 889GL anti-glare or does anybody recommend a different 8" widescreen?
    thanks
