I can't tell you the inside dimensions on the 889GL, because I left mine intact.

I can tell you that the 889GL isn't anti-glare. Still, because my side windows are all tinted, and because the Scion has such a steep windshield, glare hasn't been a problem.

Mine isn't finished yet -- not the bezel, anyway. The version 1 xBs have a lot of space to fool around on the bezel, where the version 2 units had a much more restrictive design.

I hope to get the PC back in the dash Sunday, and then I can start developing bezel components. It will all be plastic-welded.

wow you really do-do things overkill--over a thousand posts!
i was still reading post 8-hundred-something thinking the bezel was right around the corner, lol.
yea huge difference between g1 and g2 xB, i hardly think it's the same car.
i saw your posts about the differences and how the new one lost allot of gas mileage...i kinda think that depends on driving style:
i have a friend here locally that has the g1 xB, and we both have similar driving styles: FUN!!! we like lots of acceleration.
I'm glad i waited because i almost bought the g1 xB, the new xB is very torque-y but unfortunately doesn't handle the curves as well (i'm going to replace my springs soon and add a strut support).
but because of our driving syles- i actually get better mileage than adam! his g1 only gets about 21-22 mpg and i average 27-28, i think the reason is i don't have to be so heavy on the gas when i accelerate, such as getting on the freeway, yet adam is flooring it all the time because it doesn't have enough for him.

but i'm sure that if we all went easy of the throttle, he'd get around 34 and i'd get around 31 (i actually averaged 32 when i first bought the car, because i was so easy on my brand new baby :-)

rdholtz, this post looks like the same screen you have, the screen i want to get. could you verify?
he has the exact dimensions of viewable screen as well as external size but there's no plastic casing.
i hope that's the same screen, i'm about to pull my bezel and check to see if it'll fit.

Actually, the new xBs are completely different cars. The new one runs a derivative of the Corolla drive train, and is bigger in every way except height. We've driven the new one, and there's a lot more acceleration, but there's a lot more bulk, too -- about 600 pounds. Nonetheless, I think the suspension mods can make it into a pretty satisfactory machine that provides a lot of space and gets good fuel economy, for not much money. It also has the advantage of all the perfomance mods available for the Corolla engine. On the downside, it doesn't have the outrageous boxiness of the original, so it's lost some charm.

Josh's xB is automatic, where mine is a 5-speed, and mine's definitely more fun to drive. We're both running wide tires, and they help tremendously. He still runs about 2.5 MPG better than I do; mine is a numerically higher final drive ratio. Mine runs 4000rpm at 80mph (~130kph). It desperately needs a sixth gear, arranged as a second overdrive.

I think Scion could have left the original in production and moved the new one in as a different model, and sold even more of them.

I'm not sure which post you mean, but mine's the 889GL.

wow i feel stupid, completely forgot to paste the link:
    My E39 Bezel Attempt
post number 2 he has viewable dimensions and max dimensions without casing.
are the viewable dimensions the same as your 889gl?
if so i could assume it's the same panel and that his max dimensions are correct.
i hope so, i'm about to measure and see if i have enough vertical room for 120mm.

    thanks

The viewable area on my Lilliput 889GL is 7 x 3.94 inches (178 x 100mm), but that's encased. I haven't disassembled mine, so I don't know what the actual area is; I imagine it's close. I don't know if the LinITX and Lilliput are the same panels, but it appears that they are not, since his has 108mm viewable height vs the 100mm of mine.

ok well i think i'm going to take a chance and order the 889gl
i was worried about the linitx screen because the casing was slightly too big, but with your 889gl being smaller, hopefully i'll be lucky and it'll fit.

if not, well i know local people who are VERY GOOD with bondo and fiberglass and painting, i can always modify my bezel.

well i'm ording the 889 on wednesday!!! i'm excited.
i'll post updates once it comes in, thanks everybody for all the advice!

Not quite. nGhost supports N screens (where N is the number of screens you can possibly attach to your system).

I worked on a tri-touchscreen setup over the summer for a contract that I worked on. It was pretty cool and I'd like to do the same for my car (but possibly 4 instead of just 3).

    Good luck!
