What about a small solar panel in your rear windshield? Adafruit has 6V models on sale this week (I bought one myself).

Like me... I could have bought a MKIV navigation unit/computer to my E46, and then hook up a iPhone/Pod intergration kit, and actually have everything I need... Still, I'm going with a CarPC approach because.... I CAN!
Kinda surprise by some people's attitudes to this, 'why do this, why do that'.... why put a computer in a car?'
Strive forward my good man, at the very least as a proof of concept.... actually, of several.
A lot of these features are already out there.
With my Compustar alarm it will lock/unlock the doors depending on my distance to the vehicle. My friend has the new BMW X5 where the door unlocks when he puts his hand near the handle, not sure how they did that. And also if he shuts the door but it doesn't close all the way, it'll actually pull itself shut.
