I have been looking into a replacement screen but have not found one yet. I was thinking along the same path as you. If I could swap out the screen and replace it with a screen that has a VGA input then I do not see a reason why it would not work.

Update: Just waiting on my motherboard and a few other parts to come in. I hope I will get to install next 2 weeks.

I wouldn't let that take from the G8's appeal. This car is F-ING sick man... I came from a WS6, and this car is just about as fast, but with more comfort, and modern, European styling. I get compliments everywhere I go, in either car. I think the G8 was a great progression for me. It was between the GTO and the G8, but I was going to get much better financing on the brand-new G8 than the 2006 GTO.

I figured, why would I need TWO sport coupes?

Anyways, I am REALLY wanting this replacement-screen-idea to work. It seems like the easiest solution, assuming the screen is driven by a standard signal from the headunit. If not, this will likely be dead before it starts. I despise the idea of composite, AND paying $500-$700 just for a freakin' software update to make the stock stereo ACCEPT said composite input... but I suppose if it came down to it...

We need to learn more about the stock screen. Perhaps people that have taken it all apart to do the TS upgrade can provide part numbers to do some research. I'm pretty sure no one has really considered what we are proposing, so they wouldn't have looked at the part numbers closely.

There is a guy on another forum that I belong to that appears to have hacked the GMLAN.
    Post is Here

I am going to wait on the install of my car pc for a few weeks until this develops more. He started a week or two ago and has made lots of progress. If I am able to move the HVAC controls to a separate touch screen then I can replace my stock Head Unit with a Garrulity Screen in its place. This might help you out to ScrapMaker. We would not have to bother with the stock screen at all.

not sure how I missed this thread... but yes, it's exactly what I need... I mean, it'd be much simpler if I could just replace the screen with a VGA one, and probably cheaper overall, but this is very exciting nonetheless... especially now that he has GMLAN all figured out... it's nearly the same on all GM vehicles...

Just gotta say I love it when I hear people enjoying their Pontiacs - esp the ones made here in Australia :P - The plant GMH (General Motors Holden) where they are/were made is only about 15min away and is a major employer of the local area. I do not work for them but have a great repect for the company and love their products... Only just has a limited edition VE commodore (what th G6 and G8 are built on) been released to the Australian market in both Sedan and Ute..

I think they got the G8 GT just not the GXP. All of these guys have one HERE

Just got my MB in on Friday and one of the pins in the 775 socket was bent so i sent it back. Should get another on Wednesday. After that the testing begins and then the install. There will be lots of pics.....for you guys......and so that I know how everything goes back together

    -UPDATE

I put the computer together last night and loaded XP onto one drive and LinuxICE on the other. Trying to increase boot times and mess with the software for both OS right now.

The G8 (I believe) used the same crappy RGBsync display as the CTS-V (V1) and I had to use a rescaler board to make it work, but it did.

Yeah, a two year old thread.
