Looking good! Nice to see it coming together
Looking good! Nice to see it coming together
That is looking to be one sweet setup can't wait till it's done!
Nothing special about June 5th, but with plans this weekend and next that puts me at the 22nd for soonest I can do it, but and then Memorial Day weekend we usually do family stuff so that rules out the weekend of the 29th.
So all that leaves me only two possible weekend install dates. :(
Ah okay, wasn't sure if it was for a show or something.
Everything looks like it's coming along really nice. I have an 03 Accord and am looking to doing something similar (as fas as the screen goes). One thing I am wondering about is how readable the screen will be once in place (specifically in regards to sunlight).
Have you looked into this yet? I would love to hear your insight.
I would imagine it will be similiar to having the factory radio down there. Almost every time I drive I look down in the cubby area as if the screen was installed there. The sun rarely is down there, even when it is sometimes on the factory radio it doesn't always make it to the cubby. The couple times the sun was down there, I was parked in a parking lot, following the traffic flow, and it had me angled just right - that diagonal design - that the sun could hit it.
As far as generally easy to see the screen, I think it'll be easier to reach/read than how I had it setup in my Chrysler.
Tuesday May 4th:
Well, last week some more parts came in, but I've been busy with work/personal life that I just didn't have the time dedicated to fully unbox/take pics/write up information while doing so.
I ordered a slew of parts from my favorite discount cable supplier...MonoPrice. They're inexpensive, they're quick to ship out, they're inexpensive to ship, they have live chat for sales/tech support. I love 'em. No complaints or issues. I've never been shipped the wrong item - they're great.

Well, in the Chrysler I ordered a stereo mini cable from someone else for $5 shipped, because, well...it was $5 shipped! The thing cracked and split at the end of the connection and provided for subpar audio quality. It was okay though, because the USB Hub I have also comes with audio ports. This caused issues, however and randomly Windows would forget or something would change it to use the other standard jack instead of through the USB hub. Wanting to avoid that whole issue this time around, in the future, and make sure I had decent sound from the PC in the back, I started looking at options with my integrated audio. I have two:
- 25' Stereo Mini to front of car from trunk.
- 25' RCA to front of car from trunk.
The tech at MonoPrice informed me that their new "PREMIUM" stereo mini cable will provide the quality I seek. So I ordered one. And a smaller one to cut apart and see how it's wrapped. I also ordered adapters and a 25' RCA cable, as well as a short RCA cable to cut apart and compare how it's wrapped. Now, I got the Car2PC - and posted that update the other day. Well, I ordered the wrong Stereo Mini - so I've got a spare 25' Male to Male stereo mini (and likely soon a spare 25' RCA) cable. I'm also intending to plug the stereo cable into some speakers, and into my laptop - and run a vaccuum cleaner & rug doctor power cord alongside the stereo mini cable. We'll see if the interference from those throw anything on the audio line - but I honestly doubt it. This is one awesome looking cable!

I am CERTAIN that I removed the 25' VGA cable from the Chrysler, however I have been unable to find it. So I spent a few more coins on a new 25' VGA cable.

I've been trying to figure out how I'm going to easily get power from the M4 to the hub & screen. The molex connections will be on the inside of the case, I need a way to bring them to the outside. I thought, hey - I have a spare PCI slot I won't be using, and PLENTY of spare brackets. I could probably fab some molex connections into the bracket and make an easy plug in power connection. Well, low and behold - MonoPrice had exactly what I needed!

I threw in some zip ties for filler - then saw something that for whatever reason I couldnt' resist. 100' of heatshrink tubing for $5. I added it to my cart. It's 100'...for $5...I think I got 4 small short strips from the local hardware store for $5 last time!

I also ordered my Centrafuse license from Mo-Co-So. $65 vs. $80 at FluxMedia?! NO BRAINER! <3 Mo-Co-So!!! I've also decided on using the Andrea SuperBoom Microphone for my hands free in the car.
So, here's a list of final things I need to purchase prior to installation:
- Nylon washers for M4-ATX in enclosure.
- 2 Conductor 50' Electrical wire. To run between Lilli and trunk/hub and trunk.
- Wood materials for false wall.
- Carpet to cover wood for false wall.
- Brackets to secure items in trunk.
I need to:
- Finish building PC.
- Install & Update Windows 7, configure.
- Install Centrafuse & Plugins.
- Donate to plugin creators!
- Install Garmin Mobile PC.
- Load music files.
Then I'll be confident in setting an install date. Later this week I'll cut apart the stereo mini cables and take pictures of how they're wrapped. I'll also do my tests and post results.
Monday May 10th:
So I sent my Escort Passport remote mute to be fabricated with Nexson. The work is done and I have some pics to share! Not much else has happened with the CarPC. I got some more items in today so I need to take pics and write up about them, but here's the Remote Mute that I'm going to place in the panel where the factory fog light switch/etc.. would go - though I don't have any of those fancy options. It's a perfect spot for this guy!
And the completed fabrication:
Will post more photos when I install it. :)
