I've been browsing the forums for a while now and I think I've gathered enough information to finally get started on my project. I've got a 2006 Dodge Charger R/T that I will be equipping with a linux based car pc. The vehicle has already been retrofitted with a MyGig RER Navigation system which is touch screen, boasts a 20 GB hard drive, and is really quite great. I'm running this navigation through a MyGig Lockpick Adapter with a Multimedia AV harness. The harness allows me to add a backup camera, a front facing camera and one more additional input through an RCA connection.
My first question is this, if I connect my car pc to my navigations display through the RCA input, will I be able to use the display for input? I am not sure if RCA allows for captive input.
Now back to my project. I decided to build a car pc for several reasons. I want to have a backup navigation system that I can also use to input speed traps via trapster. I can carry my entire audio/video collection with me. I travel in my car quite often and I thought it would be cool to have access to a full computer with an internet connection while on the road. Finally, I just thought it would be a cool project.
I've decided to run either Moblin or Meego as my operating system. Moblin appears to have relatively low hardware requirements and frankly, the clean interface does tons for me. Furthermore, I feel like these OSes provide a nice balance between a full Operating System and an application like Centrafuse. I have included a parts list below. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please post!!!
- Intel Atom D510 Processor
- Intel Atom mini-ITX Mother Board
- 2 GB DDR2 Ram
- 250 GB Seagate 7200 RPM Hard Drive
- Wifi Card
- VGA-to-RCA Adapter
- Concealed USB Hub
- uConnnect Wireless Broadband Router
- Power Supply *not exactly sure what I need here, advice?
Audio should run through my aftermarket stereo equipment via the Lockpick just fine. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please post!!! I hope to organize this thread a bit better as time permits while also including photos, etc.
