    The Console is Done!

    ...Done for now, I have further plans but lets just call it done, OK?

    I actually had the truck back on the road a couple of weeks ago, I've made 3 trips to Toronto with it and some local driving so about 1400 km in all and so far from the console perspective, it works great. I do have some software issues to work through. I also have to replace door panels and / or have some upholstery work done to cover holes from the past install.

    I've been trying to wait to post daylight & night pics together but no decent sunlight pics yet so here is the night pics first:

    How many hours do you have in it?

    Honestly though, this is some of the best work I've seen.
    Wow if there was another level I could take my project to this would be it.
    Right now however I am spending most of my time working on the exterior and interior of the truck to go with the theme I have planned as well as software gremlins with windows 8.

    Kudos as this is great work that is near perfect.

    Hi PhilG,

    Wow!! You have made a lot of progress since I last checked. It looks fantastic in the night photos. My favorite colour is blue so your LEDs look great to me.
    I cant' help wondering if there is a different colour you could use for the spring loaded cover over those switches that would make that area look blue too.
    Can't wait to see some daylight photos. Well done.

    As for me I have made some progress too. I have mounted my touchscreen monitor in my centre console in the space under the head unit. I removed the ash tray, I don't smoke and don't allow anyone to smoke in my car so I don't need it. Unfortunately the cigarette lighter/power socket went with the ash tray so I will have to wire in a replacement somewhere for recharging, etc. I ran the cables from the monitor under the console back along the hump to the carputer which is under the left front seat. The monitor is just sitting there at the moment until I get the time to fabricate a proper mount/surround. It also covers the coin tray but I don't use it either. I will try to get some photos up to show it. Doing it this way I haven't cut or drilled any holes. It is a bit low but I don't need to look at it much.

    I have done away with Centrafuse as my carputer has evolved into being not much more than a media server for my iPad. I have a RAM cradle, windscreen suction cup, and clamp arm to mount my iPad in my car. I have the iPeng App on the iPad and Logitech Media Server software on the carputer so I can play and control my media with the iPad. A USB Wifi dongle, with a 4G sim card for mobile data, connects the iPad to the carputer. The audio from the iPad is fed from the headphone socket to the PLL modulator then into the head unit.

    So for local area work I don't need to set up the iPad and I listen to my favorite FM radio station. If I need navigation without my iPad I can power up the carputer and use GMPC. If I am going for a long trip and I need navigation I set up the iPad and use Sygic to guide me and listen to my music files. Everything just works this way which is what I need as a professional driver. The Bury handsfree kit takes care of my mobile phone needs which ever setup I am using. Best of both worlds I think.

    @Dluvr22 - Thanks for the comments and for the question. I guess I have to answer it-TOO MANY HOURS! BTW, you are way over due for a post in your work log, quit chatting on here and get back to work then post the pics!

    @ Berber - Good to hear from you again, it sounds like your making some progress on the Benz, nice! The tablet approach probably makes sense given your trying not to put the car under the knife.

    No Daytime photos for me yet, I think the sun is on permanent vacation. I traveled yesterday almost 1000 km, I definitely have software work to do now....

    The night glow pictures look real cool. I can't wait to see the daytime pictures, but I know it's going to look carshow clean!

    Thanks Robert. Hopefully we will get some sun tomorrow and I can get some decent sunlight pics.

    On another note, I decided to replace the HD in the laptop. Trying to install W8.1 on the fresh drive is the biggest nose bleed I have ever seem from MS. I am so cranky about this, I think I would like to install Mavericks on it. I can make that happen but can anyone tell me from a RRunner point of view, am I cutting off my nose to spite MS's face? Are their a ton of pitfalls I will fall into from a car PC prospective if I go this route?

    I upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1 on my laptop, and to tell the truth, I can't find anything at all it does better. In fact I think it was just a waste of time. As far as the upgrade goes, the easiest way is when you get to the part where it asks you to login to the microsoft store, skip that part, then it asks "revert back to previous windows" question, and say no, then it will install without grief.

    Thanks for the heads up on 8.1.

    This has been insane. I can't find my copy of CP W8 that W8 is suppose to load over, I can only find DP W8. So I ended up imaging the HP laptop back the the original XP image which took several hours (3 DVD's with all of HP extra crap they install). It was only on SP2 for XP however the update site from MS requires SP3. But MS update site didn't work so I had to manually Download SP3. Then IE wasn't current enough so it had to be upgraded and all of this just so I can go to my original email where I bought W8 and click on the download link and re-download it even though I have an ISO burned of it but it wouldn't accept my Key.

    Doing all this, the whole time knowing that the W8 install is just going to blow out all of the sh** that I just installed on the new hard drive when W8 installs. I'll tell you, if I thought Mavericks would play nice with my hardware & RR, I would have rather invested my time in installing it. My daughter works for Minacs in the Apple computer phone support dept. and owns a Macbook to download Mavericks on, I could probably pull this off.

    MS is not winning any friends, and losing some of the few that they had....

    So, about .5 a gig of updates to W8 had to be installed before I could see the update to 8.1 in the MS store. Now 8.1 is downloading, about another 3 gigs so I guess it will completely replace the 2.5g of W8, the .5g of W8 updates & the 6gig or so of HP image. I would say MS hired some government people to work on this project...

    Oh, BTW Robert, I've obviously done something different on DL'ing 8.1. I am on a local account in 8.0 but I went to the store and started the download, it never asked about login so who knows... it is what it is, MS has worn me out on this one.
