the dome light issue is pretty minor-- look into high flux, or super flux led's with a 120-180deg viewing angle-- 3 on each side should do pretty well, bith in lighting, and keeping everyhing less then a 1/2" tall..

for the pivot, what about looking at other cars for similar designs? you might be able to frankenstein 2 different mounts to 1 use-able mount..

As a side note, what would be really cool is if you could replace the mirror glass with a one-way mirror, so you could mount the iPod directly behind the mirror and you won't see the screen unless it's on.

that's something I have in mind, but not sure how well it works with needing to see out the rear view mirror. Turns out the reflective part of the mirror is a film applied to the back that I might be able to sand, or may be able to replace with a one way film. I'll have to think it through a bit.

You dont even really need to use a mirror. Just use glass and a super reflective covering. Kind of how the 10.2 rear screen works on mine. When its off, its black, but super reflective. When its on, the screen kind of blinds out the reflection so you only see the screen.

See, when its off you see a reflection, when its on, if looking at it directly, you do not see a reflection.

I have no idea. I took the iPad with me and fit it to what they had in the bin. If I had to guess, it would be 1/2" or thereabouts.

Can you tell me what department it was in? I have a Lowes around me, but it's a bit of a trip. Just trying to make it as painless as possible.

that stuff is usually in the hardware dept. just look for a 4' x 4' categorized/labeled box that looks like a a scrapyard of metal-- all sorts of stuff sticking up at angles close to vertical, but not quite there..

and if it isn't in that bin, it is within 20' of it. or i should say that every hardware store i've been in always keeps their raw stock in the same aisle, very near the hardware dept, and usually within a very small area in the aisle.

They have not provided much technical details yet. As far as i can tell that they made the touch screen workable with Iphone. They probably have a pc inside of the huge touch screen or some kinda customized controller.
I think that it is quite interesting.
