You can use the yellow wire to power the screen but you should definitely relay it to a better 12v source. It may just be a trigger wire (and rated as such) for the factory POS headunit.
Project is on the move again, I got my replacement parts in the mail and repaired my car at minimal cost. Also, while waiting to get my car fixed I received the mini bluetooth keyboard and ordered a cheapo 240watt 4 channel amp for the factory speakers. I am still trying to decide if I should get SD to SATA or CF to SATA. SD option is a little more spendy but also more supported amungst the tech world while, CF is cheaper but harder to find.. I also received my infrared camera and tested it successfully. The PSU is mounted in the chassis and ready to be connected. I have the wires for the screen spliced and ready to connect.
QUESTION: has anyone tried using the ignition (yellow) 12v+ form a stero harness to power the screen? I will not have a stereo in the car and would like to utilize this connection to power the screen...fused of course.
Thanks for the input!
At this rate it would be easier to use the ignition than to relay the power. The switching would then just be built in and I would still be getting a stable voltage/amperage. Any reason I should choose one method over the other or am I just over thinking the entire situation?
IMO, it doesn't matter which you use from a current point of view because the relay will be doing the "heavy lifting". The only thing that might swing your choice one way or the other is the behaviour of each circuit ie: the ignition circuit probably just drops out during cranking. What does the accessory do? Is there a delay off when you shut down until the door is opened, does it work in the accessory position? These answers might matter to you.

Thanks phil, I didn't consider the effects of those things!
When I first found this forum many years ago, I used this as a wonderful research tool, learned a lot from many people and built many car PC's based on the advise and guidance of others. Now that I have decided to post my car PC experience on this forum and share what I have to say, I realize how pig headed MP3 car really is. Although most of you will not see this post due to the nature of this message regarding this website, I am very proud to announce I am leaving the site to continue building my car PC without logging it here. this site and its corporate antics are killing the site and hobby of building PC. I am sorry MP3 car but you are a bunch of SOBs and you are too scared to post this message for the other members to read. I have built PC's for the car in the past with and without you and I will continue to do so...
sorry to hear that, but good luck on your project!!

i guess i am trying to read between the lines, but are you referring to the amount of replies in your build log here?
you aught to check my build log-- more then a year old, and only a couple more replies then yours.. i don't believe that the build log is a way to draw attention to your install so much as a research tool for others to learn what you installed and why(and my build log is a horrible representation of that..)..
