Next if I find the heart to keep going, I have to mold in the PQi OSD buttons and my slot load DVD drive. I know, "Why didn't I do it at the beginning?". I was not sure I was going to put them there. I'm still not sure. I'm not totally sure I'm going to use the DVD drive at all. Now with my broken LCD, I really am not thinking straight. I'll make up my mind in a week or two I guess.

Ok, since I broke my 10" LCD I chose to take out my frustration on my in dash ashtray. Plus it is getting a little warm here in vegas so I need to get this done. I did alot of cutting w/ my dremel and 4" cutoff tool. It felt good destroying things on purpose instead of by accident. Pics of what I did coming soon. Got some test fitting to do first. For now I'll leave you with my inspiration, a pic of what my ashtray a/c controls should look like when done.

Been a while since I updated this project because I've been doin stuff.
First, I could not get my a/c controls in my ashtray due to the large steel bar going across behind my dashboard. I'm not sure how the guy in the above picture did it w/o cutting or severely modifying that bar. I came up w/ an alternate solution I am currently working on.
In the mean time I have been finishing my dash bezel. I added a display control board, a slot for my optical drive, and I drilled holes and mounted screws to mount my new display when it arrives. I'm nowhere near as good as Nexson, but I like it. I also sound deadened the truck, so all I have left is to run wire and actually install my CarPC components.

slowly but surely!! at first, i thought you didn't use enough sound dampening, but then i see that you hit all the key areas-- saving money and getting most of the benefits!
Yeah, I don't expexct it to be a rolling concert hall. But I'm already way ahead of what I used to do to my previous vehicles: Replace the radio, upgrade the stock speakers, throw in a woofer box that takes up all available space, and power it all with a couple amps on the stock charging system.
This one's taking a little longer than expected, but I'm having alot of fun.

Always good news and bad news with this truck.
The good news is I got the amp rack upholstered and the amps and PC mounted.
The bad news is the Coustic crossover will not fit under the seat AND accept its connections. Im thinking I will mount it to the back cab wall. :ohwell:
Still to do:
Buy and install new LCD display. (Man I should not have broke the first one. :tsk:)
Move AC controls.
Mold Mids/Tweets in A-Pillars.
Make woofer box look like center console.
Install speakers.
Wire everything up.
Three months will be one year working on this; I better get to work.

looks like your doing really good!! my led tails where less then half the work you need to do and those took me nearly 1-1/2yrs...
Ok I got some things done today/night.
I mounted the main fuse block in the engine compartment on the passenger fender. I cut and installed the 0 guage power wire from the battery, through the antenna (which I removed) grommet on the passenger side firewall, to the fused distribution block on my amp rack. All fuses are currently not installed until I plan out and install the wiring.
But here is the big/crazy thing I did.
The Coustic crossover location was giving me fits. It would not fit on my amp rack under the rear seat. I mounted it on the rear cab wall. It was too big to allow the rear seat to fold/operate properly. I was just about to shelve it and go look for a PPI FRX-456, when my neighbor suggested I flush mount it into the back of the rear seat. At first I was hesitant, but then I said "why not?". I mean Im going to reupholster all the seats anyway. So I pulled back the upholstery (its velcroed to the back of the seat), cut out a section of foam with a razor blade, cut a piece of MDF to mount the crossover to, mounted the crossover, dropped it into the section where I cut out the foam, returned the upholstery that now covers the crossover and the wood mount, and finally cut out a window in the upholstery to get to all the adjustment knobs on the crossover. Bottom line: Crossover is mounted/hidden and the rear seat operates just like it did when it left the factory. I plan to run all the wiring hidden in the upholstery. When I get the seats redone, I'll let the upholstery guy clean up my rough cuts and unfinished edges.
By the time I got done doing all this, it got dark. And you guys know with my crappy phone there are no good pics. I'll see if I can swipe the wife's android phone when it is light outside and get pics for you guys.

the x-over looks so lonely in that huge seatback. maybe you should do the same thing with the amps?!?
