So this will be my first real carPC project, even though im using parts that i have had since i first became a member here. Finally sorted out my driver issues with a crappy generic touchscreen i got ages ago and lost the driver disc for, so I have most of my needed bits and bobs with the exception of two:

-I need a power supply or surge protector of some sort. I have a case that has a built in supply that takes a 12v input from an AC adapter, but nothing that would protect the pc from car turning on/off and such. i am not really sure where to go for this, it needs to be able to supply 2 12v feeds, one for the pc and one for the LCD.

-Also i am looking for a graphics card if possible, im not sure if my mobo can handle one and im hoping someone will be familiar with this motherboard and have some input (specs further down) it has space for one PCI1 card, and this might be a dumb question but does that mean that it will support any old PCI1 card? because the onboard VIA Graphics UniChrome Pro IGP graphics are pretty lame.

The other problem i have run into is issues with Destinator... i thought i added a north american map pack, but it still only shows locations in NY and Berlin... I am in colorado so thats not too useful. Also i have heard a lot of people complain about destinator.. Are there any (preferably free) alternative maps plugins?

Look at one of the Carnetix models.
And you can pull 12v for the screen from a HDD connector after the PSU.

UniChrome sucks. Nobody will disagree with you on that point.
And yes, any PCI card should do. I a a fan of nVidia chipsets, but any PCI card should work.

It sounds as if you didn't load the map pack correctly. But I am not a Desitnator expert, so I can't say.
Any free navigation option will pull map data from the internet, so you'll need a constant connection to keep the map data flowing.

Cool thanks for the reply. Carnetix will probably be the way to go. Just got back from a road trip to pick up the car. Might be doing some interior work before i get started on the carpc, gotta make it a nice place to be. Good to know that any PCI will work. just gotta make sure it fits in the case i guess.
