Ask around on that thread and the vendor is pretty good at answering questions. I think tft.lcd.org user, also on that thread, is also selling those here in the US with derrick, he may actually help with things like custom cable lenghts and what not. This way you could just leave the screen itself on your custom mount and the hdmi part+cables inside the console or whatever.

Ok so here goes. I'll start from last night.

Like I said last night I was super excited when this happened. I went in and hooked it all up to the tv in my bedroom. This is what I got! It's not the greatest picture, but it gives you an idea................IT'S ALIVE!!!

Tried a bunch of different programs. This is pandora radio.

This isn't the greatest picture, but you can see here if you look real hard, that the video is playing off you tube on the tv, but not on the tablet. It's blacked out. As soon as I removed it from the dock, it plays on the tablet, obviously.

    Video Video Video!!!
You're going to hear the volume go up and down. It's not your volume, yours is fine. I'm turning the tv up and down by the remote. Showing that it's the tv volume that's giving us sound, not the tablet.

Now it's time to go to the bench testing system. Pandora radio again!

    NOTHING!

So this is where I started talking to different folks and walked away from it.

I brought an extra computer monitor home from work and hooked it up today.

You can see here the blue vga cable plugged in going directly to the monitor, and the other adapter that i was using last night, sitting to the side.

Turned it all on and............................................... .......................YES!!!!

Main screen, home screen on the tablet

    Pandora Radio

    Netflix..........................damn! No sound!

So that's where I'm at. I'm still getting no red light out of the optical, I'm not getting any sound out of the rca's. I've even bypassed the bit one thinking maybe there was an issue there. I'm getting a plug in buzz when I plug the rca's in when it's on. I've used two sets of rca's that I know worked when I put them away.

I walked away from it and got to thinking. What if, even though it has the HDMI output, it doesn't put out a digital signal? Would the optical port light up if there was no digital or optical signal? I don't know the answer to that.

So that brings me to my next test which I'll do tomorrow.

I'm going to go out and get a 3.5mm cable to RCA's and plug that in. I'll do the screen the same way, and plug the 3.5mm cable in and try and get my audio from there. My fear is that with the HDMI cord plugged in, I won't be able to use the 3.5mm jack at the same time.

    Actually I have a way to test that right now............be right back.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..............................................

CRAP! That's what I was afraid of.

You cannot use the 3.5mm jack out of the back while the HDMI is in use. As soon as you pull the HDMI out, you get sound out of the 3.5mm. SO, I'm back to square one in needing a converter that actually works.

Used a DMM, I'm not sure if I did it correctly or not, but I put one in the inside of the RCA, and one on the outside of the RCA on the converter itself. Here's the pics.

    Left RCA

    Right RCA

I'm stumped. So even if I were to get different screens, I'd still have no audio. I'd have to unplug the HDMI every time or plug it in every time! Seriously, WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

Do you have a PS3 around, laptop or Blu-ray player with HDMI output that you can hook to your converter? I wonder if the spdif or the rca would work then. If they work with your converter, it may be the tablet's fault.

I'm suspecting it may have to do with the tablet's overzealous implementation of the HDMI/HDCP standard.

Try the converter support and open a ticket, maybe you can return it still.

I would also try all the converters at Amazon, they have a great policy where if the device doesn't work, you can return it with free shipping. I tried 3 BT headphones once, some wouldn't work with my iPhone4, some would just not wake from sleep, the third one the batteries wouldn't last. I settled on a 4th one (Motorola 305), my least favorite choice, but it works. In the end, no taxes and no shipping costs for me (I'm a prime membership too, so I usually order cereal and maple syrup from Amazon, for free, any small stuff, totally worth it, btw :-)).

You see, this is my problem. I'm so wrapped up in this, I was going to go to bed and just walk away from it, but it's consuming me. I had to look for more options. This is what I've found.

The HDFury3 Check out the specs on it. It does have two HDMI inputs, which I only need one, but it also does audio output on it as well. It also does analog as well as optical output. That would get me set up on the analog, then I could switch it to the optical. Just in thinking anyway. As far as the video output, I could still go with those samsung screens, and use the VGA input on those through a split module as well.

Price is a little up there, but it might just work. Monoprice has it!

The other step I may take right now, is getting another cheap one and see if it'll work or not. Talking about the Parra converter that I linked earlier. Seems to go from HDMI to composite. I may try that and if by some miracle that works, then I can keep the screens I have, as well as have audio. I'm truely going to bed now! My brain is on overload, as is my emotions!

I forgot to post why I think this might work. Here's a link from their forum that someone else asked about the Galaxy tablet, however I think it was about the Galaxy 7 whereas I have the 10.1. Anyway, here's the link!

I read the HDFury3 specs. Seems to mainly strip HDCP restrictions, which is great! I thought this would be illegal in the US (thanks to Congress). So if you have an old 1080i projector, that won't be able to display tv/blu-ray at 1080i anymore because it lacks HDCP chip, this will do. This might be the ticket to get around what I suspect to be overly zelous tablet pc manufacturers over digital content (so that they can offer netflix, etc.).

However, it claims a lot of stuff for such a tiny device. Gamma Boost? What's that? Lot's of programmable stuff too, so it may help with issues. Still, the website has a lot of "too good to be true" claims, but who knows?

Again, I would stick with HDMI to HDMI, but if you need the digital sound output, this may be it.

Well that being said, I just found this on Amazon.com and sent them a message asking them a few questions regarding my application and system. Actually here, I'll just post my email to them:

I was looking at an lux11 and I have a couple of questions. A little background into what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to mount a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet in my car. I'm also trying to get video into two head rest monitors (have kids). The only option I have is an HDMI output for both.

What I want to do is take the HDMI output of this unit, and put it to my video screens which have HDMI inputs. I would like to take the audio signal to my processor for my sound system. I need analog to set up the processor via software, and then after that I can use the optical output to the processor for my sound. Is the video, and both analog and digital audio on all the time, or is it one or the other for audio?

Also, I'm going to be hooking up the headrest monitors on a switch to be able to turn them off when the kids are not in the car. I'd like to preserve the screens by not having them on all the time, and I'd prefer not entertain the people who drive behind me. LOL. By doing that, turning them off, is that going to affect the ability to get the sound out of the LUX11 as well? Or can I run the sound if I'm not having those screens on?

These are very very important questions for my application. If these are a go, then I think we're a go on purchase. I look forward to your response.

    Thanks
    Scott Carver

So we'll see what they say. If they say yes, then I think that this, combined with an HDMI splitter, and the Samsung screens will be the new plan.

My concern with this unit, that I saw, was that it says in the description "The HDMI output must be connected to a display for the converter to extract the audio signal." That's a pretty vague statement, so that's why I wanted to ask them about it. To me that says that the HDMI output just has to be connected to something, but not necessarily on. SO if I run that to the splitter, Like this one, then into the monitors. If the monitors are on the switch to be turned on or off, and the splitter still has power splitting the signal, then it's still all connected, would I get audio still out of it?

If that's the case then we're golden, i'd assume! So I'll wait to hear back from them and see what they say.

To answer your questions, I don't really know what all that other stuff is that you asked, gamma boost, etc. I guess I could send them an email as well and see what they say. Worst case, if none of these work after they say they will, it'll make returns much easier.

My only issue with the current converter and returning it, is that I already cut the power cord cause I hardwired it to the DC-DC, so I think I'm just out on this one, unless I can figure out a way to fix it. I don't know. It wasn't horribly pricey, like 40.00 I think. Maybe I'll just eat this one, and know to plug the rest of them into the wall until I know it all works. Especially now that I know the DC-DC works.
