Hello Scott. I've been reading your worklog the past couple days. Nice work! I have a question regarding the dock. You mentioned that you temporarily mounted the dock to the bezel with hot glue. How do you plan on making it permanent? I am wanting to make my bezel (cradle) this weekend for my SG Tab 2 7.0. I dismantled the cradle from the dock because the cradle has too much of a gap to have a nice clean line (see pictures below). I'm thinking I might glass the cradle while the tablet is docked so I can make it one piece. I figure I'll have to get some putty or something to surround where the connection is so I don't get any resin into the connector. What do you think?

In post #193 on page 20 you show your before and after shots of your dashboard bezel. It appears that on the original bezel you had an AC vent on the left side of the double din stereo section? Is that correct?

If so you cut way into that portion of the bezel to make room for the length of the GT. If it is an AC vent how do you plan on fixing that section to still pump out air to the car?

It's a problem that I will most likely run into with my GT install on my 05 Xterra.

So last month we were keeping the car, the beginning of this month we were selling it yet again. Now we're keeping it for real I guess. At least till it's paid off, as I said before. So the build is back on, but it's only come about in the last couple days that we've decided this. So nothing has happened. Matter of fact I'm kind of back to scratch with it a little bit. By that I mean I threw away all the extension pieces, LIKE AN IDIOT, for the face plate extension etc. So I'll have to get back to that starting over. I'm still undecided on if I'm going to get a new head unit. I'm ok with tearing into the Alpine unit cause it's old and I got it for a steal when I bought it. But if I go out and spend a couple hundred dollars, which I don't have, on the new pioneer unit, then I'm not sure I wanna go tearing into it. I'm just not sure yet. If I get a new Pioneer Unit it will be the DEH-P9400BH. The link will show you what all it has. It would give me everything I need.

But to everything else, it's all back on. I still have the dash bezel that I started making and everything else. I'm going to probably do some alterations to the bezel, cause after thinking about it, and looking at other sites etc, I think I can do it better this time. I'm also going to be incorporating a pocket in there to slide in my phone, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as well since I'll be using it as my wifi hot spot etc. I still have to figure out where I'm going to relocate my HVAC controls too, and as well, where I'm going to put the face plate.

My thoughts before, and I'm going off memory and what the bezel was turning out to be, was that the HVAC controls were going to go in the head liner, and the face plate was going to go under the tablet. I think this will remain the same. I'm also thinking the HVAC controls may do good in the pocket in the center console as well though. So I'll explore and see where I go.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking me, but what I'm seeing is that you don't want to use the cradle you want to do a fiberglass pan or surround and you're worried about the contacts getting resin in it? The way I did it was did the fiberglassing first, then I cut in the cradle dock. This way you don't have any resin around it. Once I put it in there, I hot glued it, and that's the way it sits now. It needs to be moved a little more now though, cause the contacts barely touch. So once I get all that finalized, I'll either use resin or CA Glue or epoxy to get it in place. Not sure if that helps. Hopefully it does, but if not, let me know and we'll figure it out together.

Got a build log? I'd like to follow along with you if it's ok with you.

I have a total of 4 vents on my dash. One on either side of the steering wheel, which includes the one I cut into, and then two on the other side of the dash, next to the bezel on the right, and another one on the far right of the dash. To me, and this is just my opinion, 4 are too many for this small car. So I'm going to cover up the duct, and then it should push more air out of the other three. My A/C cools off the car pretty damn quickly too. So I'm not worried about it. That vent that's getting closed off, is where the phone is now going to. It's in pretty direct sight of me, and it's damn near the perfect spot for it too!

Again guys, sorry it took so long to get back to you, I'll go check my settings now. I should have some progress soon on this stuff. I'll update when I do. Thanks guys!

Thanks Scott. I was referring to fiberglassing the bezel and dock at the same time. I got past that checkpoint using a little bit of your ideas. I added my worklog to my signature. Good luck and hopefully you don't have to redo too much

So I got two cause I wasn't sure if I would get a difference in hooking them up one to the alternator, and one to the sub amp. I thought maybe I'd see different settings. Besides that, they were cheap enough, that if I can't run them that way, or won't see a difference, then I can use one for the truck!

But this will help me in continuing the tablet install.

So what are those parts for?

Well, I"m going to have 4 amps, a few batteries, and lots of power, so I want to be able to watch my battery voltage. I got one for the power system, and I got one to put at the sub amp to see the draw on it. Make sure it doesn't drop below 12v.

Obviously I need to dial it in, but you can see how it looks. I think it's very subtle. Not too bight and yet still very clear! I like it alot, and it was cheap which is even better!!

So I have some news guys. The install is stopping at this point. My wife and I have decided to sell the car and try to get a new one. However, that being said, I'm going to do the tablet install in the truck I'm currently starting a build on. When that starts, I'll go ahead and link it over here, and start a new thread. Thanks for your patience guys! Hopefully it won't be long till that starts!
