So to be clear if I went with the DCDC I would need 2 of them. 1 for the tablet and 1 forthe converter right?

Which converter? does it need 12V?
If you need both 5v and 12v I think you should go for something like the m4-atx ( or whatever car-pc psu you want )

Ok so back on subject with my build and research. I've been looking at the M2-ATX like you suggested a couple pages ago. I'm trying to figure out hook up on it and I have a theory but Im not sure if I'm correct. Can you look it over and confirm for me please?

Here's my little diagram. My confusion comes in a where do I install the converter power at?

    J1 - Battery Positive
J2 - Now if I wanted to power a 12v something off this, the J2 is where I'd do it from correct?
J3 - Ignition or Switched Power
    J4 - Ground
J5 - "Goes to Led". I could put an LED up front to tell me power is going out. Correct?
J6 - This has two pins "Remote and Ground" so the remote would go to my bit one remote in and the ground to ground
J8 or J9 - Which of these, or do both of these go to the power. I'm guessing cause it says on the J9 of the manual says "optional, J8 is in parallel with J9". So does that mean if I wanted to I could run the power for the Galaxy from the front to here and it would power the converter and the charger for the Galaxy? Also I'm thinking I can use this or something like it to plug directly into the converter, and wire it to J9 or J8.

Also for this, what pin should I use for Offdelay/Hardoff? I'm guessing A which is 5sec/45sec. Does this basically mean that when I turn off the car it will take 45 seconds to turn off the converter or charger? If I use no pins, it will turn on when I turn on the car, then turn off when I turn it off?

Here's my little diagram. Can someone confirm this please?

I just sold the stuff today to give me the money for this project. As soon as I can pay off the credit card with it, I'll be buying it all.

    Correct.
J2 - Now if I wanted to power a 12v something off this, the J2 is where I'd do it from correct?
Possible , You can also get it from the J7 cable - I don't think it really matters for your use
J3 - Ignition or Switched Power
    Correct.
    J4 - Ground
    Correct.
J5 - "Goes to Led". I could put an LED up front to tell me power is going out. Correct?
    Seems right.
J6 - This has two pins "Remote and Ground" so the remote would go to my bit one remote in and the ground to ground
You don't need to connect the gnd , only remote
J8 or J9 - Which of these, or do both of these go to the power. I'm guessing cause it says on the J9 of the manual says "optional, J8 is in parallel with J9". NO. it's just a momentary switch it doesn't supply voltage... To get 5V you would have to find the 5V pins on the J7 cable - You can use J8/J9 if you want to wire the tab's power hardware button for example

Also for this, what pin should I use for Offdelay/Hardoff? I'm guessing A which is 5sec/45sec. If you don't connect the power button then the only way the tab will be aware of the ign switch is by charging/discharging.. From the manual it seems that the m2 cannot be connected via usb to change the settings ( unlike the m4 ) so you would have to go for P1 and wait a full minute before the tablet will not be supplied with power and go to sleep , Or use P0 and figure out how to start the m2 with the ignition ( the m4 in this state waits for a button push on motherboard pins as far as I recall but its seems that the m2 acts a little different so you will have to figure this out )

Here's my little diagram. Can someone confirm this please?

Ok so using a DMM I could just ground one and then go along the tabs till I find the 5v one right? Or is that too simple?

Lost me on the "tabs hardware button" part. Sorry

Would it be easier for me to just get a small power inverter instead of using this?

    Yeah
you can also find the pinout and make your search a little easier

I don't know how to explain the tab's hardware power button thing better
What I'm going to do is to open my nook and extend the hardware buttons , the power button will be connected to the motherboard switch and will control the sleep/wakeup of the tablet
Some things on my install require me to be able to charge the tablet when the car is not in use ( when I use USB-HOST I'm draining the battery even when its charging ) and I'm planning to continue charging about 5 hours after I shut the car down ( In a later part I'll be using the DCDC-USB usb connection to send a hard-off command to the power supply when the nook's battery is full )

WOW! That's awesome man, I was just looking around for that. Thanks! So there's basically several 5v power sources in there. Just pick any one correct?

So with the hardware tab button you're basically saying, crack open the tablet, and extend the wires out? I don't think I wanna go to that extent.

It will defiantly be easier , but the audio part might be messed up - power inverters are a big cause of trouble and can cause ground-loops and alternator noise( just search the forum )

You can use a cheap 12V and 5V converters with the current rate you need
But I don't know how reliable it will be ,
And if it will be eventually cheaper because you need both 12V and 5V stable from what you told me..
Look at the power-supply section , maybe the folks there can recommend you a more suitable and "tailored" solution

yeah , use one of the +5VDC ( +5VSB is the standby voltage - if you plan to connect something to it make sure it doesn't need more than 1.5A )
and one of the COM ( black ) which is GND

About the hardware button , Exactly
And I didn't think you would that's why I haven't really suggested it
