    My CarPC worklog

Well, I don't exactly have the car this is going into yet, but figured I'd start a project log on the PC side of things and also the other gear I already have for this build.

    PC Components

    Asus M4A78LT-M AM3 Motherboard
    AMD Phenom II X4 960T
Kingston Hyper X 8GB Dual Channel
    XION SlimCase
M4-ATX 250W PSU with SFF Case
    Micro Bluetooth Plug
    Rosewill RNX-N180UBE wifi adapter
    M-Audio Firewire 410 soud card, 4 inputs, 10 outputs.
PCI Texas Instrument chipset Firewire card (1 firewire 400, 2 firewire 800)
    StarTech PCI PCMCIA adapter
    GlobalSat BC-337 PCMCIA GPS card

    Other components

Lilliput 629GL 7" Transflective sunlight readable with capacitive multi-touch touchscreen.
    Visteon HDZoom HD Radio Tuner
    GlobalSat BC-337 GPS Receiver
    MP3Car Shark Fin wifi/GPS/cell antenna

    Audo Components

Zuki Audio 6 Channel Class A/B
    Blaupunkt THA-350
    Seas Lotus RT27F Tweeters
    Peerless 830881 4" Midrange
    Peerless 830586 8" Mid-bass
    JBL W10GTi MKII 10" Sub

    Wiring & interconnects.

    All custom made interconnects/speaker wiring.
Interconnects are 3ft long and made from Canare L-2T2S+ microphone cable, shielded and terminated with 1/4" TS on signal end, and RCA on amp end.
Speaker wiring is Canare star-quad 4S6, 2 runs to each door one for the mid-bass wired in pairs, the other for mids/tweets.

    Power wiring and components.
    1/0AWG from battery to rear.
    4AWG and 8AWG to amps/pc/other items.
Terminals, distribution blocks, fuse blocks all DB-Link except the fuse block under the hood is streetwires.

All interconnects and wiring will have techflex, heatshrink, and custom labels.

I'll post some pictures up as I go here. Right now I have this LCD I bought that was broken but it was sunlight readable, I got it repaired after teedius resoldering of every joint I could do.

Got around to working on the actual PC part of the build today. Got the case modded for the PSU and routed all the cable work and what not. There is a cage that normally fits in to house the optical drive and what not but I'm not putting an internal one in so no need for it. I think I got the innards pretty decent.

Did a bit of testing, got the HD Radio Tuner working no problem here on my bench (aka floor). Been trying to work out how to use my existing GPS receiver as it's an older CF based unit but apparently isn't a standard CF type connection? Came with a PCMCIA adapter back when I bought it a long time ago. So I just found a low profile PCMCIA PCI card on amazon and ordered it so hopefully that'll work ok and saves me from buying another GPS unit since I couldn't find one for cheap with an external antenna port and the one I have has one.

Made some changes to the setup. My resistive touch screen was not working. I got the transflective LCD working perfect now and also replaced the resistive screen with a capacitive multi-touch. Also sold the JBL MS-8 and have dug out my M-Audio Firewire 410 that I'll be using with Audio Mulch for my crossover work.

Also I've purchased all my drivers now. I have sold the Hertz HV200 8" mid-basses and bought some M&K badged Peerless Exclusive 8" mid-basses. Also purchased are the Peerless 830881 mids and of course I have the Seas Lotus RT27F tweeters. I found a deal on a Zuki Class A/B 6 channel amp (which is where the MS-8 went) so I picked that up and also picked up a Blaupunkt THA350, it's only rated at 350W mono at 4ohm, and 400 at 2 ohm mono but it's gotta be way under-rated as it has 90 amps of fusing (same as my 6 channel). So I have all the amps, I have probably 99% of the wiring. I've started working on my custom interconnects. Got the software stuff that I need as well as hardware sound card. Most of the actual system are purchased and here I just need little things here and there and accessories to add functionality to the CarPC. Will be posting pictures soon of custom cables and what not.

Sounds like you really stepped it up a notch going to the TF + capacitive.

Yea, should be awesome. I bought that one that needed repair turned out to be a pretty easy.

Hopefully I can get started ripping the interior out soon.

Pics of all the audio stuff I have so far. Still waiting on amp number 2 and the mids.

Believe it or not, the box of wiring stuff weights almost as much as the sub!

Some of the cables built and labeled. I still have 4 to go, 2 for the sub channels and 2 to connect the HD Radio into the sound card.
