ok second attempt with fiberglass:



this time was almost perfect!





BUT...
since I used too many layer of plastic to protect the tab, it can't fit perfectly in the dock and the extension was not straight



so I removed it and will try again



I'm sure version 3 will be the good one

version 3: perfect! (at last...)

this time I wrapped the tab in only two layer of plastic




and then, with a perfect mix of resin and hardener I fiberglassed it
The wood piece keeps the front lip in place)


It's a very tight fit, but it's ok


I bought a small can of "stucco metallico" (don't know the exact translation, maybe "filler"?) and covered the fiberglass






Now, I have to sandpaper it to smooth and make it clean.
And since I think I use too much filler, I have a lot of sanding to do....

I'm sure you'll make a good work.. we're waiting for new pictures...

Very nice, you're a lot better at documenting the work in progress than I am, I just kind of made mine then though shoot, I didn't take any pic while I was making it.

Thanks, I'm doing so many photos because it could be of help if someone wants to try (and maybe made better work!). I have done other steps, later I'll post progress!

I've just done a little rework in the shopping list post with a list of steps I'll try to follow in this project.

Finally, after a lot of work I have completed the extended dock.

It has some small pits and scratches, but not so much.. the digital camera flash makes it seems ugly but it is not






most important of all, I saved the samsung logo








this time the tab fits correctly


this is the hole for mic to capture voice


this is not for digital camera, but is needed for grab the tab and extract from the dock










Now Step 1 is officially over!

Little update, I have started STEP 2: MAKING AUDIO/POWER CONNECTIONS and I'm having problems with the usual audio noise coming out from the amplifier. It is generated by the dock when inserting both audio and power cable. I used very cheap audio cables I have laying around, but I have purchased some quality cables from ebay and waiting for that to arrive. I also bought one car audio noise filter to try all possible things.

Today I will post some pics of the amplifier and initial audio setup.

check the ground ;-)

Yes I've checked it, now I use ground from the pre-existing radio system but even connecting to a big screw under the dash nothing changes. I hope that quality wires and noise filter will solve that.
