I' sure you're right, these tab and android seems to be rock solid, with a correct configuration I bet you could go happy :)
btw, where is the "keep screen on when in charge" setting? I miss that..!
for the screen, stand by and other functions i use Tasker
thanks win1forgipp, I'll look at that.
btw the volume widget you speak about somewhere is very useful!
Yes, new users got moderation for quite a while :)
The volume widget (several available) I use seems to work great. They look like vertical rocker buttons.

I think for the "radio" appeal these would be the best widgets to use.
I was trying to find a volume gesture...a good one would be putting four fingers (3 fingers and a thumb for natural feel) on the screen as if you're grabbing a volume knob. Turn clockwise for volume up and counterclockwise for volume down. I haven't found anything yet and I am a long ways away from teaching myself enough java/xml to build a gesture widget.
great inspiration in this thread for my build. Really like the magnetic latch that has been used by you and others, I plan on incorporating it.
Your build is most like mine in terms of not having a head unit. Any advice on what kind of amp to get? My Nissan Xterra has 6 speakers (two of them being tweeters only). At least 4 of them are being replaced during my build. I'm doing a 2005 Nissan Xterra conversion.
Any 4 or 5 chan amp will work. You just need to make sure it has enough power RMS to drive those speakers. You are only getting a signal from the Tab, nothing more. I'd use the 5th chan to power a small 10" woofer. Just something for some bass presence unless you intend on having a really loud system. Then I would get a seperate 2 chan and bridge the channels to the speaker. Just have to run all new power/ground wires.
this looks great too! It seems better than Volume Widget because this has an indicator for the set volume level.
Now I am in Milan, the first part of the trip goes incredibly well.. I am able to get directions from google navigator, playing music, making calls (tried only with a bluetooth headset), writing sms and gtalk messages with voice recognition, all with a single device with a beautiful screen definition, great touch sensitivity, great and fast software... info on music playing, using my entire address book synced with google, and so on..
Who want a stock car radio again?? :D
