Nexus 7 (Android) in a 2001 Audi S4

These are the only pic's I have of the Bezel before cutting it up. It was the one my Pioneer was mounted in. I basically just cut off everything off the back and left about 1/4" left of the face.

Then I tore a couple of old hard drives apart and stole the powerful magnets from them.
then I broke the magnets up and super glued them to the back of the bezel. I then glued on some felt, just to sort of hide the silver magnets and make it look a little nicer if its take off and sitting on the seat.

These are just strips of elastic from a fabric store. I wrapped them around pieces of magnet and used super glue to hold it together.

In the car...

Temporary location of my volume knob, till I find a permanent place to mount them.
The one on the right is the volume. It's inline between the bluetooth receiver and the crossover.
The knob on the left is a remote bass knob going back to my sub amp.

Here is a new video I made to show how the bezel opens and comes off.

I was just reading reviews on this and I know this tablet would work great for me, but here are my issues.

1. It doesn't have a microsd slot, meaning no expandable memory. It does have a miniusb, which you can connect a hard drive too, but I need that usb port for charging...

For me this isn't an issue, I'm basically streaming everything from the web, Pandora, Podcasts, youtube, ect. Plus Google has this thing called Google Play where you can upload your own mp3's from your computer to Google's servers, then stream them from the cloud, for free! Up to 250 gigs! You just have to have an internet connection. You can then click a box to keep some of the songs in the built in internal 16 gig ram.

There is a setting on the N7 that tells the pad to stay on as long as there is power connected, so when it's in the dash and I plan on leaving it in I plug it in using the mini usb cable plugged into a 12 to USB adaptor wired to the +12 volts ignition on circuit. I then set the screen off time for 15 seconds (the shortest available), so 15 seconds after turning the car off the screen goes off.

I also have my Verizon MIFi Hot spot hooked to the same 12 volt source so It's always powered when the car is running. I can't hook up my blue tooth receiver to the power because for some reason IT SHUTS OFF WHEN ITS PLUGGED INTO THE CHARGER?!??!. So for now when I come out to the car in the morning I have to turn on the blue tooth. It will then stay on for a few hours so If I go into a store or restaurant it will still be on when I come back. and it will last a few days before it needs charging.

I'm looking for a better blue tooth receiver that will turn on and stay on when it sees power and turn off when power is removed, if any of you have any experiences with better blue tooth receivers let me know.

Great job. Do you have part numbers or links to the bluetooth module you used? I've tried several and can't seem to find one that is consistent. Is it battery powered or do you have it wired in?

Also a part number or link for that inline volume control would be great.

What app are you using for the volume bar at the top of the screen. Doing a nexus 7 install myself. Nice job

Looks great so far! Check the amps rating on the car charger and also on ur wall charger and see what the tablet needs at a minimum. For example my galaxy tab 2 my car charger from Samsung puts out over 2 amps.

Check out a application called llama or Tasker. Will give you much more flexibility with automating tasks and apps based on conditions.

I use a Samsung HS3000 bluetooth for my setup and I'm not sure if I can charge and use it... I'll get back to u on that. But I have left it on for a couple days and still use it every so often and haven't had to charge it in a month lol I only use it for phone calls though.

I installed about 20 different volume apps before i found this one. It's not perfect but it's the only one I have found that keeps it's in front off all screens and applications.

I have Tasker and Lama both on the pad now, but I'll be honest, I'm no programer and I can't figure them out. I'm not even sure what the Lama one is for, the Tasker I get, I just can't make it do anything.

Thanks for looking into the blue tooth for me. Maybe if we find the best one we can save some other poor soles from having to buy them to see if they work down the road.
