The arduino acts like a bluetooth mouse. It reads the touches in the touchscreen and sends the data to the phone via bluetooth like a mouse.
The phone doesnt need an app, it simply sees a bluetooth mouse and connects to it.

Been busy last week installing a keyless entry and ignition system for my car, so no progress with the carputer.
I will resume work this week.

That's interesting. I wish NFC would catch on more. I would love to have my phone unlock my car and start it.

It can be done with an arduino. Maybe a future project.

just recently, this technique has really taken off in the 3d printing area-- if you look at the comments in this link, they also go over a few of the other techniques using acetone to smooth the objects:

Did you have to program the arduino to have this functionality or does the arduino just automatically send the data to the phone when they are connected?
