I would strongly suggest Apache as it is the most supported web server and is free..

I would suggest using a LAMP package that is ready to install. I have never had much luck trying to add other packages to IIS where as I can load something like WAMP, XAMPP or Universal Server and you have a full blown web server, ftp server, mail server with PHP and some other options out of the box and takes only a few seconds to install.

I use XAMPP for my web site development stuff.
I will look into that. I tend to become very biased on products. So since I am use to IIS, I will not touch the others unless the first one does something I do not like. Look how long I held onto the Car PC being the better choice. Then Centrafuse ****ed me off, and the creators closed their doors. I tried Android and now it powers my install along with Windows 7. Cant use Win 8, because god knows Win 8 is equivalent to Vista, which was equivalent to Millenium. Why MS does that one good, one bad OS stuff is beyond me.

The issue that is killing me, is that I need something that will play video in fluid, fast, exact real-time. Every viewer suffers from major lag issues. The only one, and I do mean only one that plays in real-time with 98% lag free video, is Splashtop. Issue is that Splashtop only works with one client at a time. They claim to be working on a new business version that will allow several clients to connect and view a desktop, but there is no ETA on that.

Did all my measurements. The rear bench is 43.5 inches long across. My second row is much longer, but is a 40/20/40 set up. The middle portion (20) was removed a long time ago to make a center console. I measured the seats and they are 21.5 across each. That's 43 inches, so should fit. Going to start taking things out the truck and do better measurements.

in what way do you need the tablets to interact with the PC desktop? if it's just video & audio, then why not just run a DLNA server on the PC and a capable player on the tablets...

The tablets can already access the server. I want a kind of shared mode. So everyone sees the same thing, at the same time, and control it all together. A shared mode. When they want to do their own thing, they simply close the browser or app and use the tablet as normal.

Just read through this ENTIRE thread!!! Good work and great info so far!

With your new build plans, what are you doing with the MK808, and have you figured out the touchscreen option yet? I am fully convinced that I want to run an Android car solution myself. I would really like to use the MK808 or similar if we could just get a USB touchscreen to work with it! Otherwise, I need to find a tablet that supports USB Host, so that I can still run a bunch of USB peripherals. Following up on a link posted by someone earlier, I came across this capacitive touchscreen that's currently only available on pre-order. http://www.chalk-elec.com/?p=1712

I have also been trying to find a tablet solution. Most tablets are now supporting USB Host Mode. But at the same time, many have dropped using a separate charging port. Which means, in the car, when you are trying to use USB host mode, you cannot also charge through the USB port. This can be an issue. At least the MK808s can have a charge AND use host mode at the same time. But still waiting for touchscreen.

There are some products out there that will do this but realize they are generally used for businesses and will cost some money.

The VNC route is likely the best route but will be dependent on your network speed. Just have to find a server that will allow more than one connection to it.

Another option you might be able to take advantage of is Intel's WiDi or similar technology that will allow you to broadcast a screen to multiple devices.
