A lot of job has been done, but I like the result - you couldn't imagine that there is something not factory fitted:

    Huh

    Just dropping in...

    Nice work!!!!!

And I was thinking - since the battery is in an enclosure which may make feeling for temperature difficult (unless it gets real hot for a while), maybe later a temp sensor as I think I described (battery versus ambient).
But that's a later project. The battery should be fine for now. And maybe it could be done in conjunction with a voltmeter...

Some might think that's overkill (just as I think fire extinguishers are overkill unless they are needed), but since I seem to be looking at perfection...

I like this project . I have a remote starting Car PC and have often considered this route to enable the Car PC start from a distance on keyfob press and know it'll defo survive engine cranking when I start the car - after loading groceries etc.

    Good work .

    Cheers,
    Dave

Yeap, it's a delicate moment. Cranking with running PC without ANY risk for the PC to restart. In my case I use DC-DC converter set to 16V + my mobo requires 9-18V input. I tested the DC-DC converter powered by main battery - it was fine, but I wanted to be sure it will be fine for long time, so I ended with dual battery UIBI setup. OldSpark helped me a lot for that and I'm searching for a way to buy him a beer

    Some update:
I mounted the modded SONY Remote (it's acting lika a usb joystick now - see my older posts)

It is in the car now, but it was too dark to make photos, sorry.

And one new Idea - What's happening when you see on start up "Press any key to skip disk check" or "Start windows repair | Start windows normally | Last know good configuration". Also how do I enter in BIOS? I need a wired keyboard. So I got the world's smallest wired KBD:
    http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/478

I plan to integrate it in my sunvisor. It will be used only in emergency where there is need of input device before the OS has been loaded. So I don't need it be comfortable to use but hidden and secured.

As allays there will be a lot photos by the integrating process

    And one question:
Do some of you use your CarPC's as hands free device for the cell phone and what microphones do you use?
What do you think about the Sony ECM-DS70P replicas? I ordered one, but I'll have to wait for it lot...

My mobo also have an internal Digital mic header, so I ordered 2 microphones from laptops. I didn't find any info for them so only by pictures I tried to find out they are digital. Time will say, but I'll be very thankful if any of you give me specific info for microphones used in:
    Acer Aspire One ZG5

If I see proper there are labels "Data" "CLK" "Power" and "GND".
    And SONY VAIO

No labels on the board at all I'll have to guess/figure out which wire is which.
    Thanks

Love reading you worklog mate, make me wish i started one of my own....on the microphone and hands free front....im running a pheonix echo cancelling usb sound card which is almost a must(echo reduction anyway is a must for phone calls) not too many options around...the pheonix one works almost prefectly...im also using a andrea DA-350 mic..but i have a very loud 4x4...both windows down @100kmph and it will still read my voice commands..there normally over $300us...see thread on mp3car i started for a 2nd hand one on ebay for about $30us....if your thinking of going hands free i would order the andrea mic....for $30 it would be a crime to miss out as it is designed for noisey automotive use ....if you go usb bluetooth get a few cheapies...they arnt all the same you want few for testing...ive had the best results with a ebay generic V2 micro bluetooth dongle at under $2delivered get a few from a few sellers...i tried the V3/4 ones but had issues always...

    As usual, real impressive work.

    Ha - thanks!
Of course IMO the only way is in person, but I am still boycotting international (air) travel whilst this security bullsh continues. I got into enough trouble during my last trip in 2002 - and that was when my cig lighters, pencils, water bottle etc were NOT security issues! (Ah - the free trips I have knocked back since...)
But failing that excuse for a meet-up - or beer - no extra reward is needed. Knowing that solutions work and have (hopefully!) simplified or lowered costs and improved reliability is the reward.
What goes around, comes around. Someone helps you, you help someone later.
[Yes Children**, I think there is something in that. Experiences over the past few years makes me extremely suspicious that it is not a mere ideal or bullsh - after all, I am all too experienced with the coincidence of the remotest of probabilities -cum- possibilities, but IMO a few Karma experiences defy even my limits. **"Children" - viz Chef from Southpark.]

Andrea mic is hard to find here in Europe. The almost only way is to order one from USA, but then I'll have to pay extra 30 buks for ship, and then (the cost + shipping cost) *1.2. In my country taxes are 20%. I've red almost all threats for andrea mic and even the one where a ebay user has been selling a couple DA-350's for 30 usd, but not any more. I got a colleague who is going to travel to Las Vegas next month so I'll do my best to use him as a courier
However today the mentioned mic's from laptops arrived and I'll play with them. If no luck, at least the experience will left for future Which reminds me about the OldSpasrk's thinking - "I help you now, you help to someone else in the future" - I think in exact the same way, but it's so sad that people with this kind of thinking are a few...

About the andrea's. camo.b, could you tell me THE REAL difference about these:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Andrea-Elect...item4abd04ef11
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Andrea-Elect...item43bdd56077
The first - SUMA supperts only microphone. The Second one is PureAudio and is ... whole usb sound card. I need only microphone, the difference in price is not big, so this is fine, too. I'm just trying to find out which one is better for hour CarPC needs or they are just the same in the part of microphone use.

PureAudio® External Digital Sound Card With Patented Noise Reduction Technology.

Increase intelligibility and performance of microphone input and stereo speaker output with patented noise reduction technology enhancing your digital audio applications..

Your headset, microphone or speakers will perform only as good as the sound card or integrated audio system that you plug into. Most laptops and PCs today have audio systems built in and it is often placed close to noisy components like the power supply or high frequency processors. In addition, PC's may be used in high noise level environments which can affect the performance of applications, such as those that use speech input.

Andrea's PureAudio USB-SA with patented noise reduction technology eliminates noise problems as it utilizes high quality digital circuitry and has state of the art noise reduction algorithm software. This format bypasses your desktop or laptop computer's sound system, providing increased intelligibility and performance of stereo microphone input and stereo speaker output for all of your digital audio applications including VoIP and speech recognition programs.

    Product Features:

Hi-fidelity external sound card with CD quality digital sample rates.
Converts the built-in sound of the average desktop or laptop into a rich audio experience designed for PC users who insist on high quality/low noise audio.
Small form factor, about the size of a thumb drive, is convenient for portablity with audio peripherals.
The USB adapter enables the audio device driver platform which supports the Andrea Pure Audio noise reduction technology and Andrea hardware peripherals. Can also be used to enhance ANY existing legacy headset, microhone or speakers.
Includes Andrea's complete PureAudio Voice Solutions Software Suite.

    The Andrea Advantage…
Pure Audio™ Voice Solutions Software Suite:

Pure Audio™ - Patented and award winning noise reduction speech enhancement algorithm. Significantly improves intelligibility of voice audio and accuracy in speech driven applications, particularly in high noise environments.

AudioCommander – PC Audio Control Panel including speaker volume adjustment with received PureAudio noise reduction and a 10-band graphic equalizer with 18 built-in presets to customize sound for your listening preference. Also includes a microphone volume adjustment with noise reduction. Whether you’re using VoIP, Game Chat, playing music, watching movies or using speech recognition applications, you’ll always have the audio parameters set appropriately for optimal performance.

VoiceCenter – A full function digital audio recording application with unlimited recording time and the ability to compress audio/voice files in WMA format and send them via e-mail and drag & drop audio/voice files into Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or other multi-media applications.
What makes me suspicious is "This format bypasses your desktop or laptop computer's sound system, providing increased intelligibility and performance of stereo microphone input and stereo speaker output" I don't want to use Andrea's output at all, because in that case I would have to run it all the way trough the car. My AuxIN plug for the car audio system uses the genuine CD Changer protocol and is in the trunk. That would give me worst audio quality, you know.

So Two questions about using ONLY mic input I got here:
    1. Are some of them better than the other?
    2. Can USB-SA PureAudio® External Digital Sound Card be used for only microphone input while the stereo speaker output to be provided by the PC's integrated sound card.

If you have any experience with them could you share it with me
And which of them to buy? Thank you very much

Ive used the second one before with the mic only input.it works perfectly untill i started driving over 20kmph...too much extra noise after that.the other one i wanted to try but as i only have a atom based system i dont want to be running any extra software..which that one relys on to work correctly.i like to keep my system very lean for performance..so standalone hardware i find is best..if your S80 is super qiuet inside it might be o.k with the first kit but windows down or music playing it will suffer particualy if you cannot route the audio out thru the usd sound card.the software uses both audio in and out for comparison...ebay search this number..... 281194573567 mabee you could get somone here local to collect it for you and have your mate pickup...i got two sent to australia for a total of $80us...but it still needs echo cancellation=more money...
