WOW! Full size motherboard ?!? SSD and HDD. What is the average amperage of this set-up (without the audio amp). Do you have a worklog like this one? (no matter what language)
Volvo everywhere (the whole, the yellow old style stickers). A see you got the spirit of VOLVO in your heart. It's really nice to see one of us, but in the other side of the world. (I'm in the Board of Directors of Volvo Club Bulgaria. I've owned 4 Volvo's and no other brand)
No time for long posts now. Gotta run.
my worklog is inthe spanish volvo forums. if you want i give you the link....
in this link you can see all my project for the first idea from today......
Don't be shame - give it to us :)
I know the English and international (err matthew's). You could see me there but with my default nickname which is NOT VolvoCarPC. I use this nick only for the PC stuff in the car and never mention anything for PC's with my default nickname. Just make my best to be safe, you know. But once I'm sure somebody has real interest to communicate with me (like rray for example) then we could exchange skype, facebook e-mail - it's ok.
I have seen the S40 before...
Give me some time to "google translate" from Spanish so that I could read your threat.
what about your progress???????
To be honest - the engine have to be opened. It sounds like a bad valve. Intake probably.
The gasket is the thing that forces me to wait - 20 days for delivery.
I'm not sure whether is a good idea to share this info but ... it's a 2.9 engine - 200hp. It's code is B6294S. It's a part of the Volvo Modular Engine group, so most of the parts are interchangeable with 5 cylinder ones, but not the gaskets, because mine have to be with 6 big wholes, you know.
However, I'm waiting and my head is full with questions - repair it / part it / repair it / part it ...
In this situation my enthusiasm in making a car pc for a car with unknown future is at the edge BUT for cleaning my head from the bad thoughts (part it / repair it / part it) I'm still doing the CarPC stuff. In this case - the PCB's.
This is the first attempt in making a DIY PCB in my life. Hell I made them twice and there is still one more to do.
Here is what I'm talking about.
First try for transferring tonner. The image is NOT blurry. That was the result ....
again not good enough...
Then I printed the PCB's on different papers:
From left to right: very thick glossy brochure paper; vellum; heavy glossy brochure paper; self adhesive paper, but with removed paper and printing at the glossy back (it seems this was the best)
And here are the results:
There still were areas with not so good transfer, but I fixed them with CD marker.Front:
Next step was making a "tool" which will let me inspect the PCB during the etching process:
Some pics during the etching process:
Etching done. Time to check the proper matching of the layers:
WOW. I was so happy, and I made mediately the big single layer one:
Aaaaaannnnnnnddddddddd..... OH NO - I've mirrored the PCB twice. Once during the design process and once just before printing (I was in hurry).
So it was time to repeat the process... the PCB blanks were finished so I bought new ones. The new are a bit different - more thick and more transparent.
And one of the tree PCB's completely done:
Just to be 100% sure I've soldered all the tracks:
It's time to finish the dual layer one and start from the beginning with the big one. I feel no good enough, so this night I'll take a rest.
Next week I plan to start "cleaning" over the engine - air box, cables, hoses and all the necessary stuff which need to be removed before attempting to open the engine. So this thread maybe will go to second page before i update it again. However I'll be checking here and if there are any questions I'll be happy to answer them.
OHHHHHH BAD LUCK with your volvo......
many time a go i have the sane problem in my volvo...... cost of the repair 600 euros
120 euros the part the rest for the work ...but now my volvo is like the first day.
I'm gonna do the repair by miself.
25 EU for head gasket
25 eu for intake and exhaust gaskets
50 eu for polish and valve job
40-50 eu for silicones, cleaners and other needed stuff
40-50 hours "making love" with the car in the garage :)
Hopefully only the head will need to be repaired...
A got one more Volvo S80 but B5244S. It's for parts, so I'm going to use most of the things from it. - some vacuum lines, pipes and other stuff in case I need them and they are good enough.
The + when doing this by your own is that you inspect almost everliving under the hood during this process and clean renew or anything needed, while the shop just concentrate in the things they previously offered you.
