    The modified OEM radio re-installed.

The Mac Mini wired and installed (power supply is in center console)

The 5 volt regulator and breath mint box I enclosed it in.

The 5.1 decoder with the 5 volt regulator in circuit.

Now all that is left are software applications.
What chip did you use to power in that mintbox? Heat sync big enough?!

Just a 5 volt regulator LM series.

Mint box is the heat sink and mounted to the amplifier heat sink, no worries at all.

    UPDATE:

Interfacing the OEM radio/nav to the 5.1 sound is the new project.

Tried using LOC's and the distortion from the transformers is too much to bare.

Going to use a differential to single end conversion chip (4, dual amps on one IC) to convert the differential signals (pre amplifier) from the OEM and mix them then feed to the 5.1 decoder.

    We shall see.

    UPDATE:

Grabbed the audio feed from the radio and it is differential.

Found a chip that will convert from differential to single ended and it works great.

Now the problem is volume control as the OEM radio controlled volume via class II to the BOSE amplifier.

    What an engineering POS.

    UPDATE:

I had to get two switching power supplies that put out 15 volts (adjustable) so I could supply the positive and negative rails for the chip to work.

Then I found software that actually made it play through the Mac Mini.

    "Linein", "Soundflower", and "AU Lab".

So now I have volume and tone control over the OEM audio feed.

    WHOO HOO!

    Here is the interface.

    2 ICs, 4 caps, 6 resistors.

    New update.

Revisited the OEM display and tried some new modifications:

Will either have good or bad news after testing.

Got a picture on the OEM display, now just have to get it to sync.

Goal is a NTSC back up camera input.

Composite sync is the same as combined sync, but you will not be able to get the high resolution (600X800 and higher) using composite sync.
