I'm still having issues with pictures..... anyone know what's up with the "Add Image" popup and why I can't get the OK button?

Anyway, the console is almost complete and ready to go to The Spray Shop for final finishing. I've attached some images, hopefully they'll show up!

Wow that's coming together very well! And I'm so jealous of the car, it looks like it'll be so much fun to drive - that engine bay is just phenomenal, such a gorgeous set of headers on quite the motor

    It's way better now.
What would be the finish - textured paint I hope...

What about the angle view - did you test it in actual driving position?

Thanks, it's looking good. I've got 2 finishes I'm toying with at the moment.... there is an experimental finish a local painter uses, but it's not clear if it's do-able. Otherwise, safe & staple leather.

Space-wise, it should be OK, thanks to a very legs outstretched driving position. Left leg will be level with the lower part of the console, which is why I've gone for that shape. Well, that's the theory anyway, LOL!

Thanks for your comment guys.... Protias, you made me laugh out loud!!

Anyway..... work is progressing nicely, despite the sub-zero weather over here. The garage heater is doing a great job and I'm pleased to say the centre console is now finished and ready to go out for trimming. It'll go out once I've finished a few other custom parts on the interior, such as the air vent and new door handles.... I'll post some pics this weekend.

In the meantime, the final PC parts have been procured That's the internal TDA7850 amp and the BU-353 S4 GPS unit. That'll give me plenty to do over the Xmas holidays!

As it's been a while since I last posted, I thought I'd give a quick update...

Over Xmas / NY I worked on the hardware build and unfortunately had some problems with the mainboard. Despite what Zotac tell you in the blurb, the D2700 WiFi Supreme is not compatable with the Crucial mSATA SSD. After lots of grief and some great support from the guys at Mini-ITX, we concluded that the issue is non-resolvable. I decided that in the interests of the project, I'll remove the D2700's WiFi / Bluetooth module and hope Zotac find a fix that can be applied via a firmware update at some point in the future.

With the board re-installed and the WiFi / BT module removed, the PC was running fine. I've installed an eBay special 6 BT USB dongle, which actually works fantastically. WiFi isn't a priority and I'll just use ethernet in the garage to do data transfer or a large 32GB USB stick I've got. Prioritising the Crucial mSATA was the right call, it's crazy fast and scores an 8.9 on the Windows 7 Experience Index, outstriping everything else on the PC!!

The MonkeyBoard DAB radio is fantastic (although it did need a noise surpressed 3.5mm audio lead), as is the GlobalSat BU353 S4 GPS module. The Lilliput 669HD touchscreen is also working a treat. The only piece of hardware to setup is the mini amp, which I'll do this weekend.

So, with all that sorted, I got onto the s/ware. Windows is actually full fat (I had problems with RT7Lite and Win Toolkit, so gave up the cut down install), but runs really quickly, thanks mainly to the mSATA. To be fair, given that my car has 4-point harnesses, it'll take me 5minutes to ever get out of the garage and down the road, so Windows could run from an ancient IDE drive and still be ready before me, LOL!!!

I've decided to go with FreeICE as my front end. It does everything I want, has great MonkeyBoard integration and best of all is free.... although to be fair, having seen how good the product and the support from the dev team is, I think they could charge a few bob for it without a problem. I'm using Sygic Truck Fleet for nav and FI integrates with it very nicely - it automatically runs Sygic at startup (in the background) and resizes it into it's program window nicely. Finally, in order to share the GPS between Sygic and FI (it has it's own graphical speedo!), I installed Franson GPSGate, which runs at startup.

So, it's almost job done on the h/ware, time to install the amp, cable it all up and install the PC in the car. I've got a week until the dash & centre console comes back, so that's 7 days to finsih off the PC

It seems the forum is playing up and I can't post pics again, grrrr! As soon as I resolve that little problem I'll post a few pics.

Next milestone completed... the PC buttoned up and installed in the car!

Thankfully, the MonkeyBoard & Amp fit nicely in the little M350 case, with very little modification needed. All the wiring is buttoned up run thru' to the appropriate places out of the back of the case. Installing the PC was straight forwards as it fits perfectly behind the passenger foot rest and the cables run neatly upto the screen's final position on the centre console. I've run an iPhone lead into the driver's side luggage compartment (the Utima has side luggage compartments rather than a traditional boot) and a USB extension lead has been run to an easy to reach location under the dash.

Unfortunately the trimmers are still working on the interior leather & paint works, so I won't be able to go any further for another week So, to tide you over until then, here's the final PC spec and a few more pics:

    Modified M350 case
Zotac D2700 supreme, 2.2ghz dual core, 4GB RAM
    128GB Crucial M4 mSATA SSD
MonkeyBoard DAB radio (mounted inside M350 case)
TDA7850 mini amp with denoiser (mounted inside M350 case)
    GlobalSat BU353-S4 GPS
Mini USB WiFi & BlueTooth dongles
    JL Audio 5x8 speakers
Lilliput 669HB touch screen in ByeByte frame
Rii 330 Bluetooth mini keyboard / touchpad
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    FreeICE Beta 4 Frontend
    Franson GPSGate (port sharing software)
Sygic Truck Fleet / MapFactor PC Navigator sat nav software

Phew!! And now for the final assembly pics:
