(my brother got a 66' and a 69? California Special)
You in Cali?
Sorry for the post tangent but I had to say this. Columnmn, love your UTE and the work you have done on it! I just finished reading all 11 pages and look forward to more.
Why don't you start a thread here for the carpc part?
Like the dog pictures! Sweet!
Deep respect for all the work you have done!
Sorry, I'm trying not to take over this thread. I'd love a mustang, they aren't as common in Australia. So far more expensive, so I'm very jealous.

Just caught that post, once the OP is back, the thread should sort it's self back to mustangs :)
But you both are Fords and carpc so hopefully not too much of a tangent ;)
ok - so lots of research on the tablet to optical out function on this build- i have ordered two items:
- miniDSP USBStreamer
- Jarekc - TAS1020B-based Asynchronous USB to I2S/SPDIF converter 24bit/96kHz
i will test these units on a Acer A500 Android tablet, a kindle fire as well as a HTC rezound Android phone to see how they interact with different flavours of the Android OS....
I have not ordered the Dayton Audio gear as of yet... just waiting to finish a few items on the 69 first ... still trying to decide on sub orientation and amp placement... basically trying to decide to keep a back seat or not...
i know i want the subs firing forward into the cabin either modify the rear deck for the 10" subs or modify the rear seat area and use the trunk for a traditional display of the amps and other gear etc..
also need to research a shop that will fabricate some kick panel enclosures for the Dayton Audio RS-180's, possibly using the air vent area used on the 69 to allow fresh air into the cabin.. if i find a good shop i may keep the back seat, order a leather kit to match the front seats and have them create a fiberglass enclosure in the area on each side of the rear seat to house each RSS265HO 10" sub... so in stating that if anybody knows of a reputable shop in the north florida (Jacksonville) area.... let me know..
i picked up a Google Nexus7 32G tabled from tiger direct..
also, both USB > optical units have arrived:
so hopefully ill have some time to bench test some items this weekend.. i dug out my Astron RS-35M AC>DC power supply and my DSATX 220w from my previous carpc 96_cobra_project ... so we shall see ... a quick connection of the minidsp usbstreamer via OTG cable to the Nexus7 resulted in a power on LED but no audio out, audio was playing from the built in speakers of the Nexus7.. ill need to find an app that will allow me to route the audio out to the usb at some point...
i ordered the vintage air AC kit along with the adapter to work with the stock mustang AC/Heat controls.. seems they don't sell the stock controls adapter kit unless you purchase it with a system, but you can upgrade to the billet controls for a fee close to 200.00.
also contacted a mobile audio shop http://www.audiodesignscg.com/ out of JAX Florida after finding a few of their builds online, talked about building some custom fiberglass kick panels to house the RS180's. ill visit the shop and a few others at some point.
on the 69 build update -- installing Baer 13" rotors with 4 piston billet hats on the rear with integral parking brake.. ill be finished one day..
soundabout might be what you're looking for audio-wise
ah cool thanks ill check it out...
I finally had some time to setup for testing, connected PXA-H701, RUX-C701, MRV-F545, remote enable routed through toggle switch, MiniDSP USBStreamer, HP laptop .. setup an audio test and verified windows audio output for the player was pointed to the USBStreamer... verified all wiring two more times, hit the PS button ... nothing... fuse is toast, replace it... remove the load.. eh instant .. no worky ... seems my Ham Radio power supply was hit by lightning a few weeks ago during a storm and I didn't realize it, heck it worked the last time I used it a month or so ago. never a dull moment..... almost... ill pick up a new PS and/or repair this one in the next week or so. maybe ill borrow one from a buddy to test with...
success! after setup of a power supply that works, i was able to test the MiniDSP USBStreamer connected to a laptop>optical out to the H701 and playing through some junk speakers... the good thing.. this is the first time the audio equipment has been tested since the Cobra's demise in 2008 ... so.. glad to know it works... so now a base test is done with Windows and time to move on to Android with the JarekC USB>SPDIF ...
soundabout didnt work for me, it locked up several times on the nexus7 when selecting usb device.. force power down was required to allow use of the Nexus7 again. i tried various power on sequences, with usb>optical device (Jarekc device) connected before power on etc. same result. currently nexus7 is powered off and will not turn on with no devices connected.... hopefully it will restart at some piont... battery was fully charged.. awesome!
