after a bit of research over on diymobileaudio on various threads, i downloaded USB Audio Recorder Pro from the google play store to the nexus7, connected the OTG cable, minidsp USBStreamer, optical out to Alpine PXA-H701 etc ... can now play FLAC audio files 44100, 24bit and 4800,24bit but, the 48khz sounds a bit off pitch .. but, progress!!! audio out only works with the USB Audio Recorder Pro app so more work needs to be done for other devices, also i have been unable to get the JarekC usb>spdif device to work under windows or android...

ok - i purchased a minix neo x5 android device with optical out from newegg... tests worked out great, optical out into the alpine h701 with no problems, with default player and flac audio files and any other type of mp3 so far... i also purchased a minix rf remote with gyro and g sensor.. nice.. now i need to build a launcher/widget for all the functions i want via touch screen. so far so good.. trying to decide on a 7" touch screen monitor... i liked the xenarc i had in my cobra project... but lots of new items out since then.. and ill need a hdmi connection.. i think ill be replacing my ROKU devices with these neo devices.... the x7 quad core will be out soon...

Sorry, I was late at seeing this forum, and your issues with the Nexus 7. It's a pretty easy solution.

    Download and install this rom:
    http://rootzwiki.com/topic/37755-tim...ent-usb-audio/

It's a rom (operating system) designed for use in cars, or having permanent power plugged in. It allowed you to hook up USB hubs/thumb drives/usb audio outs/webcams, and can be set up to auto usb audio on start up. It also has nifty fast charging features, quick start hibernation modes with the car turning on and off, volume buttons easily moved to front, and a stack of other things needed to put it in your car.

Have a play with it, it'll probably solve all of your problems.

so after reading Timur's thread i ordered a Sabre USB>Optical out from Hifimediy, ill test it out as my work schedule allows... so which device will win in the end. minix neo5 or nexus7 should be interesting.. they both have pros and cons for each setup...

the Sabre USB> optical unit arrived, wow this little gem sounds very very good... i have only listened on a windows device with sennheiser and bose headphones, i have not had time to setup my power supply and test on the alpine / Nexus 7 setup... also, i took advantage of teh parts express 4th of july sale and ordered the Dayton Audio gear ... more to follow, but the sound of the audio from the sabre usb unit makes me lean towards it than the MiniX adroid unit with optical out... we shall see... but to give an idea, this little sabre device has me going back and listening to audio i have listened to for many years, just to hear any differences..... thats a good thing .. if it ends up in the 69 ill purchase another for other use...

i have been using the MiniX 5 unit as the main media device replacing a roku in my living room... familiarizing myself with the interface and other items... works very good.. will probably replace the roku depending on what ends up in the 69...

also had to add a few pics, we installed the fays2 watts link, calvert racing caltrac traction bars.... first time she has been on the ground and out of the garage for a while... didn't have time to give her a wash before the tropical storm rain moved in for the weekend...
