so.. progress is slow, focus has been getting the 69 on the road and all the bugs worked out before Labor Day weekend for a event .. but, i did test the Sabre USB>Optical out connected to the MiniX and it works!!! to my amazement, with the Minix already powered on and hdmi connected to the monitor, i navigated to FLAC files i have been using for testing off of the NAS via ethernet and they streamed without any issue and the sound quality of the Sabre was still great... so, now i think i will shift focus on a front end layout for the MiniX and see how it goes. i will still try to work with the Nexus7, root it and install Timur's kernel, but im gonna run with the MiniX/Sabre combo for a bit. Should be interesting to do A/B testing with the opical out of the Minix and the optical out of the Sabre...

also, back to the gauge cluster modifications, i finished extending the RGB LED wiring of my gauge cluster, adding the LED strand connectors at each end which will allow for daisy chaining more LED's for interior /under dash lighting, additional gauges in the console as well as door sill lighting..

ok - progress getting the 69 on the road.... its driving under its own power... some alignment woes.. but we made it to its first event in Orlando, Mustangs at the Mickyard and earned a bronze trophy in its class... which was way more than what was expected..

    video of it running -
    http://youtu.be/c0R4tNd1m3c

    and
    http://youtu.be/ML9z9f6NZsc

also with a squeaky belt ...

as for the audio and interior portion, now i can focus on a few other items -
currently researching/building a raspberry Pi (Fi) setup to determine if the DAC's i have purchased will work with the build... may be an interesting test.. we shall see.

also installing various LED lighting throughout the car with LED sequential tail lights, backup lights as well as getting back on the gauge cluster arduino programming and interior LED lighting.

more fun to come as the digital world hits an old school mustang..

came into this a bit late. :\ great looking build. Seeing how you seem to be comfortable with arduino i was going to suggest hacking a 2013 mustang gauge cluster (via can-bus protocol) and using those gauges for your build.

im interested in your tube preamp. why did you choose to go with it , it looks to be two channel, how is it hooked up and how do you like it?

scott_fx -- thanks for the kind words.. i do plan on getting into Can-bus, the mustang gauge cluster sounds like an interesting idea ..

as for the tube preamp .. i am into tube guitar amps, building, repairing etc, so i wanted the tube warmth in the audio of the 69, but with my current setup (ebay 12v based design) >> audio out of the H701 into the tube pre and then to the alpine amp ... its very easy to overload the the current tube setup... when i have the time to sit down and figure out a way to make it work with the correct tube circuit ... ill post it up...

awesome. im very interested in your results concerning the tube pre amp. I'll be following your updates. In my Corvette I had two phaze audio tube amps and they were by far the best amps i've ever had. I'm about to bite the bullet on a '66 Chevelle (hopefully this weekend) and was considering getting some butler audio tubes amps (he build the phaze amps) But if you get good results i may just pick up a another zapco (cheaper and i already have a 500x1 zapco) and do a pre amp like you.

also, love the fact you're going dayton. very cool build

yeah i wanted to try the Dayton Audio setup .... i have read some good things about them and the price is definitely good along with the build quality of the components... nice choice on the 66 chevelle ... love that squared look.. im a Mustang guy but, lots of very nice muscle cars by all MFG's came out in the 60's and early 70's .... butler audio WOW i bet they sounded amazing ... i have never seen anything negative posted about them... on any forum..

    raspyfi

ok -- so i have been living with and loving the last week with raspyfi .. currently have it connected to my home audio setup via ethernet and usb ... into a soundvalves tube preamp, panasound solid state amp, Audio Research solid state amp, 60's dynaco speakers, Magnepan MG III's... switching between the two different speakers, testing out the Audio Research amp that a buddy loaned me... he wants to sell it to me... (crack dealer method)

you can connect to the raspyfi via ethernet (wifi if setup) with a android device MPDroid (tablet, phone), ios device itunes (iphone, ipad), web browser etc .. so the possibilities are all around... i have it connected to a usb doc with a WD hard drive with flac, alac and some free DSD 96k 24bit files... so far so good.. sounds very very good... now with that said, i have not connected my Alpine gear to test the optical out of the DIYme .... if that didnt work.. now that would suck...
    so far so good!
