    Upgrade Idea List

    * The link to my old projects are in my signature

First thing's first, tablet business. I currently have a Galaxy Tab (the first one) installed.

I remember when the Galaxy Note smartphone came out and I was like "That makes more sense as a tablet...and styluses are so 2005". Low and behold they now released the Galaxy Note Tab 10.1. For me 10" is more than what I need so I did more virtual digging and found that Samsung is supposedly going to release an 8" version around June-ish and is supposed to have even more enhancements. Who knows what other tablets will be released by then so for now the Note Tab is "tentative" for me.

    • Galaxy Note Tab
    • Upgrade/Replace car bluetooth module - currently EGO Flash
    • Upgrade stock audio components
    • Install accessory battery (Optima Yellow Top)
    • Mobile DVR - integrate with current cameras
    • Front facing camera with DVR
    • Relocate current tablet to rear of passenger headrest
    • Upgrade security system

    Bluetooth Upgrade Options

Here is my current bluetooth module. It was fine for a while but the wiring behind the unit somehow got a short. I'm thinking maybe that the hole I made to feed the rear wiring may have been the cause of it. I don't remember if I put a grommet..I think I did...I have definitely learned a lot from my old project.

So here is a list I started for possible replacements. I need one that supports both A2DP and HFP. I will update this list as I find others.

    • iO Talk2 - Apparently this seems to be online available through UK even though their US site markets it. Looks to be available on eBay at least.
    • Belkin CarAudio Connect AUX with Bluetooth - Nothing really special about this one. It's simple.
    • EGO Flash - Of course I could just replace my current unit. After all this issue is most likely how it was mounted vs. the functionality. This actually works quite well.
    • EGO LOOK - This one is interesting and possibility for something new..

Have you ever thought of maybe building a small car pc, I mean one for tiny things? The way I decided to implement hands free is buy having the PC act as a BT headset emulator. Basically I pair my phone with my tablet, then tell my phone to pair with the car pc, which acts as a big speaker phone. Everything is controlled via the tablet as far as answering, hanging up, volume, texting, etc. Not sure if the BT is also for audio, but it has that option. But because I want my stereo to be up-scaled to 7.1 surround sound, I decided on a 3.5mm line. All my tablets will be embedded into the car, meaning they aren't meant to be removed.

Cant wait to see this project!

    Audio Upgrade Options

I still have stock speakers. My focus over the past year was the tablet stuff.

So here starts my list (subject to change):

    • Front components - Infinity 60.9cs
    • Rear passenger door speakers - Infinity Kappa 62.9i
    • Rear deck speakers - Infinity Reference 9632cf
    • Two 10" Shallow Mount Subs - Alpine SWR-T10 - I got a lot of compliments from the sound of my old Alpine 10" E series. I am open to possibly getting these shallow mounts.
    • Amp - I am still researching this. I have yet to find what I want. JL Audio is possible..

I have an app on my tablet that handles the controlling of calls and texting. I only need the bluetooth device. Building even a small pc would be more than what I need which the bluetooth device is doing anyways.

Looking forward to it. I also learned a ton from your last thread.

I get the feeling you're like me, and can't leave well enough alone. I get yelled at when I start rooting my wife's tablet\phone\whatever...

I always upgrade because its like you're refreshing and adding new things. You get to apply what learned "not to do" and implement new technologies.
