Anyway I was thinking about a circuit that at power on to simulate pushing the button for a second.
I need to know if it's possible to start the HU in the same time with pressing the button and then releasing or if it's important that you first start the car then after a little pause you push the button for a second.
faheygf87, maybe you can test this..

This is the draft circuit if it's not important to have a pause after starting the car. If it needs a pause then I'd have to build a pulse sequencer with two chips.

The HU has to be on for about a second before you can press the button, then it must be released in order to continue.

Can you explain to me what you mean by the remote jack? And how I would test this? Are you just talkng about using the remote control? I have never tried holding the enter button on the remote control to see if it would activate appmode. I'll try that when I get to my truck after work.

Its kind of irrelevant, the remote has to be line of site with the front of the HU. I tried using the remote with the N7 between the HU and the remote and it wouldn't work.

    Lankin,
You are gold! If that works somehow, I can build an electronics circuit to mimic pushing the button just after powering on so we'll never have to touch the unit again.

... hopefully you have a wired remote (that's why I said "remote jack in the back of the unit") and not that wireless one. The wireless remote would be too hard to mimic with a circuit..

Well I tried in just about every way to start appmode from the remote control with no success. I understand that there is a remote input on the back for steering wheel controls. Maybe it's still possible to send the input through that route.

Good find, I hadn't even thought of that. My FRS doesn't have steering wheel controls but I think Metra makes an aftermarket add on SWC, maybe i'll give that a shot.

With my posts moderated for days before finally appearing here, the whole discusion gives you that "crazy" feeling when you read it. I think i'll just skip this forum and settle for some normal no paranoia moderation forum.

    Hi Lankin,

Nice build After trying several options I'm also now looking at the Sony HU with App Remote as a solution for my 2006 Range Rover Sport. I probably use a Nexus also, but combine it with Tablet Talk to get better phone functionality, than what is offered by the Sony App...

The question I've got though is how did you get the steering wheel controls to work?? Would be grateful for any advice in this regards

Also, for anybody looking at doing this on a Jaguar, Land Rover product the level of work is significantly more due to the MOST system these vehicles use. Most importantly depending on which equipment level you have you will need to keep the OEM stereo connected and hidden away for the the MOST system to work. I think you also need to retain the amplifier if you have the high end stereo system...

    Cheers

    Guy

I simply used one of these: Axxess ASWC-1 to hook up my steering wheel controls with the head unit. the head unit forwards the controls to the tablet via bluetooth.
