Taking the plunge...
Hello people :)
After extensive reading on the odroid board here on mp3car and doing some digging of my own I have decided to take the plunge and went ahead and ordered myself a bunch of goodies.
I have ordered the new ODROID-U3 Community Edition along with wifi,bt,case, emmc with android and some cable thingies. setting me back $160 including shipping
Also ordered a 20000 mAh battery from a german dude on ebay, it has a usb in rated 1A and dual usb output, one rates 1.1A the other 2.1A. this cost me $40 ish
For the time being I will be testing it on me home test machine , which only has a vga in on the monitor so I ordered a micro hdmi to vga thingie for $10
I am right now feeling very happy with my purchases and cant wait to start this build , as far as I know I have most of the stuff I need on the hardware side of things, but if anyone has useful input I will take it into consideration.
As soon as I get my new toys I will be giving myself a crash course android programming (and linux of course), I am excited about it but at the same time a bit afraid of this daunting task.
I guess this will become my new worklog :)
Pics will follow when I get my stuff but I had to post now in all my excitement :becky:
I've been planning somethig similar and will be ordering the Odroid-U2 or Odroid-XU soon. I'll be interested to see what you end up doing.
This odroid thing that i ve first seen on the other thread got me very impressed. this is my next project on the next car...! what capacity emmc did you buy ?
I bought the 16GB emmc , this for financial reasons, the 64GB emmc was a bit too pricey and I was thinking of converting my ssd into a usb external drive , that will give me an additional 32GB.
here is a pic of the battery I bought
Please, did you have a link to that thread? Sounds interesting...

if you go to the mp3car.com homepage you can see the blogs made by sonicxtacy about adroid computing.
He made several blogs about the different aspects of this sort of build, also the source of my inspiration and information
Cool, thank you guys, will have a look...

What's the battery for? I don't understand why you need that.
I will use the battery to create an always on scenario for my odroid board.
I will use tasker to set the board to a minimal state as soon as tasker detects that my phone disconnects, wifi, gps etc will turn off , and android will be set to a minimal power using state.
The screen will turn off and on with the ignition so thats taken care off as well.
The benefit will be that when my phone connects to the odroid device I will have an instant on scenario, as soon as I get the hardware parts I will be testing how long the board can survive on a full battery in sleep mode.
another reason is a power supply one, my current screen is connected to the iso connector of the original radio , with a simple module in between that makes 12V out of the 14.1 that comes out of the iso block.
But the odroid needs 5V, and according to hardkernel it will be between 1A and 2A depending on connected peripherals , the battery has a 2.1A out and a 1A in.
I have a usb charger that connects to the cigarette lighter, wich produces 1.1A at 5V , so I am hoping this setup will eliminate any need for a new (pricey) power supply.
