I am so close to pulling the trigger on an ODroid and putting something together for my BMW. The big thing holding me back is the bluetooth HFP support. Have you found a way to get hands free in your car while running ODroid?

Thanks for the bootanimation, I wanted one to see how its made I have a holden so will need to make another one to suit. As far as touchscreens go here is a link to another capacitive screen pretty sure they work with odroid using android http://www.chalk-elec.com/?page_id=1...61&id=21750201 I heard a rumour that they are making one with a reversing camera trigger built in (simple 12v line when 12v is detected it switchs inputs to the camera.) but have not been able to verify it. Would be a whole lot easier to integrate a camera if they do, have not been able to get my head around how the camera is triggered using software but people have done it that way when using a nexus 7.

I'm just going to connect it via USB. It's ready to be installed now just waiting for the SMA/motorola antenna adapters to arrive.

The only thing I did enjoy about having a factory radio in this car the last few weeks were the steering wheel controls. Luckily, one day after ordering from mp3Car this puppy arrives. Brand spankin new JoyCon EXD interface module. I've been told it works great with Android. I'm in the process of making an Android service which will allow me to have context-based hotkey support.

Going to install this weekend and find out for myself.

    This morning was pretty productive:

-Installed and configured the JoyCon. Straight-forward process once I figured out i was splicing into the wrong harness for my steering wheel remote wire. After thinking through it a second time, I added 2 wires to the Metra harness rather than splicing into the other factory harness. Works like a champ!

-Tucked more power wire and ran a line for the backup camera

-Installed my bout 10 year old eBay camera, which the colors are shot on, has no distance lines, but otherwise works. I had a little confusion here in regard to the Xenarc. The instructions indicate that the auto switch occurs on Video 2, but the wiring harness for the Xenarc only shows connections for "Video" and "CCD". CCD is the equivalent of Video 2. Once i find a quality backup camera to replace this eBay one, i'll just easily swap those out.

Next up, I gotta solve the MASSIVE rattling my aftermarket sub does in the factory sub's location. I'm pretty sure it's simply the pressure waves against the unprotected fender wall, but I'm going to have to do some trial and error.

hmm.. the eBay rover links on this site are all screwed up and it just takes me to the home page if i click it. I had to mod-edit your post to get the original link you posted to get the actual item you linked to.

As for the item, I already have something similar and have tried to use it in my install. I blogged about it on the home page a few months back. Using a battery pack like that works, but in application there are problems I could not overcome. Fact is, I don't drive my car enough to fully recharge a 13000mAh battery @ 5v. The batteries efficiency was always limited by the the fact I was never powering the system with a surplus of power (powering the ODROID with that battery pack fully charged).

Eventually, I'll take the time to reinstall my secondary battery and isolator, but honestly for now just having the ODROID boot with ignition hasn't been much of a problem for me. Either way I go though, I'm gonna have to find a solution that will resume my last playing media source when I am ready to drive off. I'll probably need a custom application to make this happen.

I'm glad to see you posted a new worklog, read through your old one a while back.

I've been working on a similar build with the ODROID-XU (when time permits).

Curious how you're handling powering off now that you're using ignition switched DC DC power supplies and no battery pack.

Are you just cutting power to the ODROID?

If so, any plans to change that, or are you going to leave it as is?

I was looking into the possibilities of doing a graceful shutdown before cutting power, but haven't had time to test anything yet.

Yup, simply cutting power. I've yet to run into a problem with it in Android and I've been testing for over a year now. I "could" just shutdown with a shell command like reboot -p but apps can hang the commands up. Eventually, i'll have the ODROID always running with my secondary battery powering it. I'll probably be reintroducing this sooner rather than later too as I'm getting all caught up in Arduino and I want to begin installing my security/control setup.

I started this app called "AutoGo" months ago with the final goal of it controlling my vehicle and replacing the defunct Connect2Car device that was installed in my Acura. It's been on hold all this time because I knew the Acura would soon be gone and there was no reason to try to wire up the Arduino. Now that I'm in my new car... its time to go!

Glad to hear that, I'm planning to start messing around with an Arduino soon too. I was thinking of interfacing with the alarm I have, in addition to some of the other car electronics.

    Screenshot looks nice!

Are you planning to use this over local WiFi in the car, or over the Internet?
