Look at the diagrams that I posted. Some of the buttons share a common wire, and then others share another common wire. Without isolation, one could possibly fry something.

So are you saying there's no isolation on the outputs or the inputs of the Phidgets? Not sure how you were thinking about doing it, I may have been thinking about doing it the opposite way or something. The outputs on the 0/16/16 model have their own ground, so I planned on running each switch or button through the outputs to have them activated through the touchscreen, then having the inputs which share a common ground on the Phidgets read the LCD output to get an accurate reading on where the CC stands. Make sense? I still may just be thinking about this all wrong, so correct me if I'm just way out of line! I'm just guessing based on pictures right now since my car isn't around to look at or probe on.

The common ground IS the problem. Lots of the buttons have different grounds, and i don't think it would be wise to hook them up to the common ground.

I gotcha there, and I'd agree, but like I was saying, the outputs on the 0/16/16 model share one ground between 2 outputs, so you could wire the common wire in those situations to the ground and, well, you get the idea. Whether or not it would have enough outputs in that case I have no idea, but I would think that'd work.

You could wire pin 8 to the ground pin and 5 and 6 to the pins surrounding that particular ground. Unless of course all of the ground pins on the Phidget board are connected, in which case everything I've been thinking just falls apart and I'm back to the drawing board. :-/

Ground pins are connected IIRC. Waiting for someone to prove me wrong. This is why my whole board is optoisolated solid state relays

Oh yeh, the phidgets board doesn't have analog in.

Nope... not done yet

Haven't been on CL in a while. Senior year isn't good for my sleeping patterns, and CL would not help one bit

About the SMD part.... I had to soder it myself. Not TOO difficult. One just has to place it on the board and hold it down with something so it won't move when you touch it. I succeeded sodering it on my second try (first try I decided to "prime" the area)

Damn it, back to the drawing board... which I don't even have one of yet. Just rollin the ideas around in the ol' noggin, but I suppose I should wait and see what I've got to work with in the car before tryin to design some sort of circuit. Well thanks for your help so far, it's definately gotten the thought process goin!

Yeh. I don't see were the phidgets would be isolated, that's the thing.

Good luck on your projects. Are you also swapping in a 6sp?
