Well, it's all up in the air right now, it won't be put into motion until summer at the earliest, or next winter at the latest. But I'm definately leaning towards putting in a Getrag 6 speed and going with a SP67, but could always end up going with something as large as a GT42R. The nice thing about the carputer is it could be permanently attached to the AEM to read any diagnostics or change the fuel mapping on the fly! That'd have to be a cool feeling, to be able to switch away from your mobile media center and change to the race fuel mapping at the the touch of a screen for a little fun Sunday driving. hehOriginally Posted by 0l33l

Have any links for the RX7? I'd love to see that! As for the slushbox, I like its smooth Lexus shifts, but if I were to have a turbo that size, it'd definately be pushing the limits of that transmission. With the 6 speed I won't have to worry about breaking it, but it'll definately take away from the luxury / convenience of the auto setup.Originally Posted by 0l33l

Yeh, you can't have best of both worlds unless you get an SMG from an //m
I know the lexus shifts smoothly, but that's the whole problem.![]()
why couldn't you use phidgets & isolate with diodes?
MY NEWEST INSTALL:modded infiniti fx with big screen
first windows carpc install........my liquid cooled LVDS screen :D
need more than 16. Simple as that. The desing I currently use is based on Curiosity's Cario desing, but I plan to modify it to use the PIC18F4455 (which has more I/OI than any phidgets kit).Originally Posted by turbocad6
I drive both my car (5-speed performance vehicle) and my fiance's car (automatic economy) almost daily. I do not understand why people think manual transmissions are "inconvenient" in traffic. I never have to think about using the clutch or shifting, it's just an automatic reflex for me. The only time it is inconvenient at all is when you are trying to hold a drink or something, but even then I can hold the drink in the top 3/4th's of my hand while shifting with the bottom 1/4th (and while dialing my cell with the other hand, reading an e-mail on my CarPC screen, and yelling at the ***-hole in front of me... LOL).Originally Posted by GS300t
Seriously. I've driven stick less than 10 times in my life, and its nothing to think about. I can jump in a vehicle with a stick, stall it once (to get were the clutch engages), and then drive it w/o stalling.Originally Posted by RPM_VR4
All of this may be, and I won't argue that, but what I am more so referring to is when there's a stiff performance clutch involved in something such as Chicago traffic. That'll really give you a workout compared to an auto! I've had both sticks and autos and sticks can be fun and like you said you don't even think about it, it's just second nature. But autos are just the ultimate in convenience (we are still talking Lexus here), not only do you not have to give any thought at all but there's none of the physical inconvenience or the thinking about 'how am I going to steer around this corner, shift, and keep my phone to my ear?' And no, we don't need to get into an argument over talking on the cell phone and driving. Out of 5 years of driving I've been accident free, never had any close calls that were my fault and only one speeding ticket when trying to follow a friend.Originally Posted by 0l33l
I usually just yank the phone away long enough to shift, bring it right back and pretend I didn't miss anything.

Hehe. I use my left hand/ear for my phone, so my shifting hand is always free. I just use my knee to stabilize the wheel while I do a quick shift with my right hand and then return it to the wheel.
Driving by knee is 2nd nature to me too LOL.
BTW: The only reason I brought it up in the first place is because I have had a few other people tell me I am silly to drive a stick in LA with all the traffic... I just look at them thinking they are silly for assuming that there is any reason I would rather be driving an auto in traffic. I drive both all the time and the stick/clutch is really not an inconvenience at all for me.
