    If I get a new car, it'll probably be a 97+ BMW 540i 6sp. Its got iBus

Damage: front. But the transmission shifter does not engage park properly, and it snaps out of drive when I brake hard.

Refular is hovering around 295, while premium is about 310 these days. Sucks big time, but at Leelo said, you got to pay to play in So Cal.

Sorry to hear this Boris. I say you should get another car, a proper one this time...

No, really, you should consider changing it after this episode, and considering the problems you reported earlier. Fixing it would require a good sum of money, and that money would better go in a newer car.

+1 on getting a five series- got mine in Januiary- there is no going back to "commoner" cars!! good luck- be sure to get a five series with the sport AND premium packages- hell I just bought not that long ago if you have any questions ask away. My 528I sport premium auto has a performance chip by a gentleman named Jim Conforti and is rated at 220 something HP- plenty of power. Plus it's nice and quiet around town and sounds like a porsche when passing or at WOT. I was worried going I6 over v8 but I just smoked a 93 5.0 mustang auto at a light by a few car lengths(manually shifting through sport mode, not a "leave in drive and hope for best special" it was a fox body mustang)- he finally caught me as I neared 90mph- he MAY have been able to beat me in the quarter mile. He followed me into a gas station and commented that my car ran quiet at idle- thats when I told him he got spanked by a six cylinder. he was baffled and shrugged, peeling out of the parking lot. Alot of guys will tell you that the 528 and 530 are better handling vehicles than the 540- the front suspension is different on the I6's. Just food for thought.

I figured why it does that. Basically the position that was drive is now sitting 1cm back. So if I move the shifter 1cm behind drive, then it works like before.

Status of car: its at mechanics. Adjuster is supposed to come tomorrow.

My SC300 gave me minimal problems. Just common maintenence with these cars. Only the fuel sensor and the rack and pinion steering failed prematurely.

Yeh... fixing this one would require a lot of money. Money that is the insurance company's.

From what I understand, the all 540i 6sp automatically come with the sport package (m-technic) and the premium package?
I hate the commoner cars. Civics, camrys, etc. And why do they cost the same as a good car that's just a few years older, and they have less features? That's why I originally got a Lexus... its not common car, and not that expensive.

Yup.... the 540i has a different front steering columb due to to the v8. I like the 540 because it has more standard features (sports package and premium package from what I've read) and because its got a getrag 6sp, not a 5sp.
