Thread: 10.4 screen install, pics, need opinions

oh, and I forgot, I also was looking to get ideas and suggestions on what to do with the vents above the screen the screen blocks about a 1/3 of the space that the vents once occupied, I would like to keep them opperable if possible. I was thinking of just cutting some slots in a piece of wood above the screen.. anyone else try something different?

Wow thats an awfully ambitious project but it looks like it should work. You still have a ton of work in front of you though. I think it would still have been easier to start with the stock part. If nothing else you could still reuse the vent portion of it. Good luck and keep us posted.

I was going to use the stock center piece, but the screen was so wide that I would have been cuting trough the clips on the side and the screen is rather thick because of the backlighting needs at least an inch and a 1/2 clearence, I thought that it would petrude to far. I still am concidering trying it again with the stock piece as a base, but I think I am going to go this route first and see how it goes.

ah it is really no different from what you have to take out to but yours in, just looks worse cause the design of my dask is slightly differnt and takeing the center piece off exposes the whole center.

I have had it off for over 5 months now, no stereo for the last couple of weeks, I have kinda gotten used to a big hole in the center of my dash.

I like it, ballsy but cool.. As far as the vents.. could you get some from a junkyard and incorperate them into your design ?? (near the top of the screen, that big open space)

edit: oh a few more things:

you should consider tilting the screen backwards increasing the angle to your eyes... it looks to flat and you might have trouble seeing some portions of the screen....

Also, the two side rounded wood pieces stick out a little bit and when you cover this it's going to create an awkward ridge...

All I can say is great start. My Sentra has a similar center console setup, so you're giving my lazy *** ideas again
