This is the best stealth LCD install I have ever seen!

Did you use this basic stamp discovery kit (Click here). You also said that the original servo was not strong enough to flip the screen and or hold the weight of the LCD. Can you explain what you mean by "metal geared servo" in which you used to sovled those problems?

he does have a link to his stamp kit on one of the pages.

As for the metal geared servo it is a servo with metal gears! What else would it be???

ie plastic gears replaced by metal ones so they don't strip as easily under heavy load. You can buy them with metal gears or sometimes buy metal gear kits. You can even buy them will ball bearings or replace the bushes with ball bearings.

Dude, it looks awesome! I wish I had a screen at all and then the time to make it look that good. I am left with my own front end that runs off voice till I have the money for a touch screen. Keep up the good work!!

oh ya woops blackbravo i would say im about 60% done with the origanal project. I still have the case to build and i am making blind spot cameras in my car.

The cameras will go in the side view mirrors plastic housing then i have 2 2.5" screens that i will either put on the A piller or flush mount it into the door.

well why i am on this topic i was wondering if somebody had an idea of how far i can extend the conroler board (board with the control knobs) from the screen.

I thought that i read somewhere that u can not extend the board to far from the sceen. but i dont know so i thought i would throw it out there.

    all help apreciated

pic is of 2.5" screen ripped from xbox a controller

Projectwidow thanks for the comments, I have so damn things i want to do its hard to keep everything straight. I got what you call "scatter brain" so I have more ideas then knowledge or time.

Anyways im hopping someone can help me out or give some opions real quick.

The delema is that the case is pretty tight to fight the opus and desktop hard drive in it. I have a 40 gig laptop drive that fits no problem but it is to small data wise.

    So my questions are this

    1. do you think it is a bad idea to have the opus actually sitting and
    touching a peice of plexi...(see pic 1 opus )

    2. the lower shelf is a 1/2" above the via processer fan and chipset heat
sink. DO you think that is enough breathing room for the board?
    (see pic 2 clearance)

    3. Would the hard drive sandwiched between pieces of plexi cause a big
heat issue? (see pic 3 sandwich)

What my ideas are behind this set up.

    1. I want to seperate the heat of the hottest components from the
processor and chipset...(opus and hard drive) <---Hottest pieces
    in the case.
So im going to put a plexi shelf above the motherboard and on that
shelf it will house the hard drive and opus. Which will have two
80mm fans blowing directly on them with a exaust fan out the back.

    2. Basically I am bankin on VIA and there low heat board be able to
operate with out any direct fan blowin on it, It will be ventillated
though. Like i said the real heat is the hard drive and power supply
So i figure i will isolate that heat and hope the via can do its thing.

So with that any quick help or suggestions on the 3 questions would be much appreciated. It is just sitten in front of me cause I cant make up my damn mind. HHHEEEELLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP

thanks to all responding in this thread

ok 1 - i dont think touching plexy is a prob - its an insulator so meh...

2 - **** off the graphics card or whatever is making the plexy box so tall. and throw in a smaller card. and cut it down. remove the power from the plexy alltogether and throw it in another fanned box. with or without the hdd.

3 - yeah i would at least give it a few cms for the air to move away from the hdd.

otherwise nice install... keep us updated.
    CarPC Status:

    Hardware: 100%
    Software: 100%
    Case Install: 100%
    Dash Install: 100%
    Car Install: 100%

    crap factor: 100%

new carpc finished, thinking of way to mount HDD
    and not installed yet.
